The present invention describes methods, devices and instruments for resurfacing or replacing facet joints, uncovertebral joints and costovertebral joints. The joints can be prepared by smoothing the articular surface on one side, by distracting the joint and by implant insertion. Implants can be stabilized against a first articular surface by creating a high level of conformance with said first articular surface, while smoothing the second articular surface with a surgical instrument with a smooth mating implant surface.

MULTI-LAYERED PROSTHETIC ELEMENT

A multi-layered prosthetic element comprises a central body (1; 1′) of a substantially truncated conical shape and having a through axial cavity (2; 2′) open at both ends which gives the central body (1; 1′) a ring-shaped cross-section. The central body (1, 1′) comprises an outer portion (110; 110′), made of trabecular metal material, an inner portion (130; 130′), made of trabecular metal material, and an intermediate portion (120; 120′) made of metal material without significant porosity. The outer portion (110; 110′) and the inner portion (130; 130′) are integrally connected to the intermediate portion (120; 120′). The intermediate portion (120; 120′) is configured to mechanically resist to stresses transmitted to the inner portion (130; 130′) on one side and to the outer portion (110; 110′) on the other side.

COATING OF DENTAL PROSTHETIC SURFACES COMPRISING A DISTINCT LAYER OF A SYNTHETIC HYDROXYAPATITE

Subject matter of the invention are prosthetic mouldings, which have, at least area by area, at least one layer of biomimetic apatite selected from fluorapatite, hydroxylapatite or their mixtures on their surface, wherein the surface of the mouldings has micromechanical anchoring positions at least in this area to improve mechanical connection of apatite to the surface. Another subject matter of the invention are mouldings for use in dental, prosthetic treatment for tooth loss, in particular for cellular attachment of cells to prosthetic mouldings. Moreover, subject matter of the invention is the method for the production of the prosthetic mouldings.

A hinge knee system includes a tibial assembly having a baseplate component and an axle component. The baseplate component has an opening that extends therein from a proximal end toward a distal end thereof. The axle component has a shaft portion receivable within the opening of the baseplate component and an axle connected to the shaft portion that extends in a direction transverse to a longitudinal axis of the shaft portion. The system also includes a femoral assembly that includes a distal femoral component. The distal femoral component includes condylar portions and an intercondylar portion disposed between the condylar portions. The intercondylar portion includes a bearing surface that defines a recess configured to rotatably receive the axle for articulation therewith.

SCAFFOLD FOR ALLOPROSTHETIC COMPOSITE IMPLANT

An alloprosthetic composite implant comprising includes a structural porous scaffold having a pore density profile corresponding to a density profile of bone to be replaced. A plurality of cells are seeded within pores of the porous scaffold and grown by incubation. The cells may include osteoblasts and/or stem cells to form the structure of the implant, and one or more cartilage layers may be grown on top of the scaffold. The pore density profile of the scaffold may be formed based on one or both of the bone density profile of the bone to be removed, and the bone density profile of the native bone that will be in contact with the alloprosthetic implant. A robot may be employed reo resect the native bone and also to shape the alloprosthetic implant to fit into place in the native bone.

An arthroplasty system including a unicondylar tibial tray implant, a total tibial tray implant, and a tibial bearing configured to individually couple with each one of the unicondylar tibial tray implant and the total tibial tray implant.

Method and apparatus for post-operative tuning of a spinal implant

A tunable implant, system, and method enables a tunable implant to be adjusted within a patient. The tunable implant includes a securing mechanism to secure the implant in the patient, a actuation portion that enables the implant to move and an adjustment portion that permits adjustment of the implant after the implant has been positioned within the patient. The method of adjusting the tunable implant includes analyzing the operation of the implant, determining if any adjustments are necessary and adjusting the implant to improve implant performance. The implant system includes both the tunable implant and a telemetric system that is operable to telemetrically receive data from the tunable implant where the data is used to determine if adjustment of the tunable implant is necessary. The system also includes an instrument assembly that is used for performing spinal surgery where the instrument assembly includes a mounting platform and a jig.

ANTIBIOTIC DISPENSING SPACER APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR INFECTED TOTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY
20180008423 · 2018-01-11 ·

A spacer for a knee replacement prosthesis. The spacer may have a lower surface with a locking component adapted to interlock with a tibial tray, an upper surface optionally with a tibial post and a pair of smooth-surfaced and slightly concave condyle support platforms disposed on opposite sides of the tibial post, and a substantially hollow body with an internal reservoir that can be filled with antibiotic material. The reservoir may be accessible from a port on the hollow body that leads into the internal reservoir, and which permits refilling of the reservoir. In some embodiments, the reservoir may be refillable from this port without removal of the spacer from the patient; for example, a percutaneous needle may be inserted into the port. The spacer may dispense antibiotic from this reservoir to the surrounding area in order to treat an infection.

Intervertebral prosthesis

An intervertebral prosthesis for insertion between adjacent vertebrae includes upper and lower prosthesis plates locatable against respective vertebrae and having opposing concavely curved recesses therein, and a core located between the plates. The core has opposed, convexly curved surfaces received in the recesses of the plates to allow the plates to slide in articulated manner over the core. The opposed surfaces of the core and the recesses of the plates have cooperating spherical curvatures. The recess of each plate surrounds a locating peg projecting centrally from the base of the recess and is bounded by an annular rim, such that the annular rims of the plates are arranged to contact one another at a predetermined limit of sliding movement of the plates over the core. The peg locates loosely in an opening located centrally in a curved surface of the core, whereby the plates can slide over the core in all directions while the peg holds the core captive.
