METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING COMPOSITE FIBER PREFORM FOR DISC BRAKES
An example method includes forming an interlayer on a carbon fiber fabric to form a composite fiber fabric. The interlayer comprises a binder. The method further includes winding the composite fiber fabric around a core to form a composite fiber preform comprising a plurality of layers defining an annulus extending along a central axis. The method further includes densifying the composite fiber preform.
MXENE COMPOSITIONS FEATURING FIVE ATOMIC LAYERS
Provided are 5-layered MXene materials having the formulas M.sub.5X.sub.4T.sub.x; (M′aM″b)X.sub.4T.sub.x (where a+b=5); and (M′.sub.aM″.sub.b).sub.5X.sub.4T.sub.x (where a+b=1). Also provided are related methods, compositions, and applications.
Silicon carbide body with localized diamond reinforcement
A reaction-bonded silicon carbide (SiC) body is produced by: providing a preform including ceramic elements and carbon, and one or more surface features; providing a powder which includes diamond particles and carbon; locating the powder in the surface feature(s); and infiltrating the preform and the powder with molten silicon (Si) to form reaction-bonded SiC in the preform, and to form reaction-bonded SiC coatings on the diamond particles. The present disclosure also relates to a device/component which includes: a main body portion and discrete elements located at least partially within the main body portion. The main body portion may include reaction-bonded SiC and Si, but not diamond, while the discrete elements include diamond particles, reaction-bonded SiC coatings surrounding the diamond particles, and Si. According to the present disclosure, diamond may be advantageously located only where it is needed.
GLASSY CARBON COMPACT
A glassy carbon compact according to the present invention has a maximum inscribed sphere diameter of 5 mm or greater, comprises pores having diameters of 500 nm or less dispersed throughout the glassy carbon compact, and has a density of 1.1 g/cm.sup.3 or greater.
ARMOR PLATING MADE OF FINE-GRAIN BORON CARBIDE AND SILICON CARBIDE
An antiballistic armor-plating component, includes a ceramic body made of a material comprising, as percentages by volume, between 35% and 55% of silicon carbide, between 20% and 50% of boron carbide, between 15% and 35% of a metallic silicon phase or of a metallic phase including silicon.
POLYCRYSTALLINE DIAMOND WITH IRON-CONTAINING BINDER
This disclosure relates to a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) body comprising a PCD material formed of intergrown diamond grains forming a diamond network, and an iron-containing binder.
Sintering agent for dry particulate refractory composition
The present invention relates to a sintering agent for dry particulate refractory compositions and dry particulate refractory compositions. The use of dry particulate refractory compositions also form part of the present invention.
CERAMIC COMPOSITE AND METHOD OF PREPARING THE SAME
A ceramic composite and a method of preparing the same are provided. The method of preparing the ceramic composite includes mixing an aluminum slag and a carbon accelerator to obtain a mixture and reacting the mixture at a temperature equal to or greater than 1600° C. in a nitrogen atmosphere to obtain a ceramic composite. The aluminum slag includes aluminum, oxygen, nitrogen, and magnesium. The weight ratio of the oxygen to the aluminum is 0.6 to 2. The weight ratio of the nitrogen to the aluminum is 0.1 to 1.2. The weight ratio of the magnesium to the aluminum is 0.04 to 0.2. The ceramic composite includes aluminum nitride accounting for at least 90 wt % of the ceramic composite.
Preform for making a component of a braking system
A preform for making a component of a braking system having a fibre-reinforced ceramic composite material, obtained by forming and subsequent pyrolysis of a pre-preg is described. Also described is a component of a braking system made wholly or in part from the preform, and a method for making a preform in a fibre-reinforced ceramic composite material.
Process for the manufacture of a fused block having a high zirconia content
A process for the manufacture of a refractory block including more than 80% zirconia, in percentage by weight based on the oxides. The process includes the following successive stages: melting, under reducing conditions, of a charge including more than 50% zircon, in percentage by weight, such as to reduce the zircon and obtain a molten material, application of oxidizing conditions to the molten material, casting of the molten material, and cooling until at least partial solidification of the molten material in the form of a block. Also, the process can include heat treatment of the block.
