20220380331 · 2022-12-01 ·

Provided is 4-methylumbelliferone, derivatives and salts thereof, or a composition comprising same for use in the treatment of a condition of the nervous system in a subject. Preferably, the condition is one associated with a scar, such as a glial scar. Typically, the condition of the nervous system is selected from the group comprising conditions caused by trauma, injury, infection, degeneration, structural defects, tumours, blood flow disruption. The neural and other lesions are made permeable and repairable.

Processes for the preparation of ortho-allylated hydroxy aryl compounds

The present application describes process for preparing an ortho-allylated hydroxy aryl compounds such as compounds of Formula (I) by reacting an allylic alcohol with a hydroxy aryl compound in the presence of aluminum compound selected from alumina and aluminum alkoxides and in a non-protic solvent wherein at least one carbon atom ortho to the hydroxy group in the hydroxy aryl compound is unsubstituted. The present application also includes compounds of Formula (I). ##STR00001##

An embodiment provides a method for measuring total chlorine in a solution, including: preparing a thiocarbamate indicator; introducing the thiocarbamate indicator to a solution, wherein the solution contains an amount of monochloramine; adding an additive to the solution, wherein the additive accelerates the reaction rate between the thiocarbamate indicator and monochloramine and causes a change in fluorescence of the solution; and measuring the amount of monochloramine in the solution by measuring an intensity of the fluorescence. Other aspects are described and claimed.

Method for controlled release using mechanical force

A general and modular mechanophore platform that efficiently releases a cargo molecule via a mechanically triggered cascade reaction is described, along with methods of synthesis and use thereof. The mechanophore platform comprises a stable Diels-Alder adduct mechanophore comprising a 2-furylcarbinol derivative as its diene component, wherein the 2-furylcarbinol derivative is, in turn, pre-loaded with a covalently attached cargo molecule, and wherein the Diels-Alder adduct mechanophore is embedded into a polymer chain or polymer network, such that the mechanophore platform undergoes the retro [4+2] cycloaddition reaction under mechanical force to reveal the unstable 2-furylcarbinol derivative, which, in turn, easily decomposes under mild conditions to release its molecule cargo.
