Apparatus for an orthopedic brace with magnetic assistance. A pair of braces are configured to each support and secure a magnetic device on each leg above the knee. The magnetic devices generate a magnetic force sufficient to reduce a spastic gait. Each magnetic device has a magnetic field that interacts with a magnetic field of the other magnetic device. The magnetic field produces a magnetic force that repels the other magnetic device as the magnetic devices move relative to each other when the wearer walks. The shape of the magnetic field is configured to aid the wearer in avoiding the legs colliding while walking. In one embodiment discrete magnets are disposed on the medial side of each brace. In another embodiment magnetic material is integral with the medial side of each brace and the magnetic material has a selected field strength curve.

A wearable bottom garment for preventing hip dislocation includes a first strap extending from the upper side of the left hip joint to the lower side of the right hip joint, and a second strap extending from the upper side of the right hip joint to the lower side of the left hip joint, wherein the first strap presses the upper side of the left hip joint from top to bottom, and presses the lower side of the right hip joint from bottom to top, and the second strap presses the upper side of the right hip joint from top to bottom, and presses the lower side of the left hip joint from bottom to top.

A method of treating a patient's joint having opposing joint surfaces includes providing an elongate member having a proximal end, a distal end and an expandable member near the distal end. The expandable member is positioned in the joint between the joint surfaces and expanded so as to separate the joint surfaces away from one another into a distracted position. The joint is manipulated while in the distracted position so that the joint is distracted and in flexion. A diagnostic or therapeutic procedure is then performed on the joint while maintaining the joint in the flexed and distracted position.

A shoulder abduction device having an integral storage compartment includes a block that is padded. A cavity extends into the block from an upper face of the block and is configured to stow an article. Each of opposing endpoints of a strap is selectively couplable to a respective opposing end of the block. The strap is configured to loopedly position around a waist of a user, positioning the opposing endpoints to couple to the block so that the block and the strap are coupled to the user with the block positioned on a side of a torso of the user. The block is configured to abduct a shoulder of the user.
