10731051 · 2020-08-04 · ·

The present invention provides a system comprising an allophanate composition comprising a neutralized polyol, a polyuretdione resin, a tertiary amine catalyst, an additive package, and a reducer; and a neutralized basecoat comprising an inorganic salt and a pigment. The present invention further provides a method of making an allophanate system comprising combining a neutralized polyol with a polyuretdione resin in the presence of a tertiary amine catalyst, an additive package, and a reducer to produce an allophanate composition, and contacting the allophanate composition with a neutralized basecoat comprising an inorganic salt and a pigment. The system may be used to make coatings, adhesives, castings, composites, and sealants in which clear-coating on neutralized pigmented basecoats is much improved in comparison to coating on non-neutralized basecoats.

Polyaldimine and curable polyurethane composition
10647807 · 2020-05-12 · ·

A polyaldimine of the formula (I) with advantageous properties in use as latent hardener for compositions including isocyanate groups, and compositions containing the polyaldimine of the formula (I) and at least one polyisocyanate and/or at least one polyurethane polymer containing isocyanate groups. The polyaldimine of the formula (I) is odourless, pH-neutral, liquid at room temperature, has low viscosity, has little sensitivity to heat and moisture, and is stable in storage together with isocyanates. It can provide odourless single-component polyurethane compositions which have good stability in storage and which do not produce bubbles when hardened in the presence of moisture, and which cause no problematic odour emissions, giving a hardened elastic material with good mechanical properties and surprisingly little tendency towards plasticizer migration.

Extended pot-life for low temperature curing polyuretdione resins

The present invention provides a reaction mixture comprising a polyuretdione resin, a neutralized polyol, an acid-blocked tertiary amine catalyst, and optionally, an additive package selected from the group consisting of flow control additives, and wetting agents, and solvents, wherein the acid has a pK.sub.a of greater than 4.82. Compositions made from the reaction mixture of the present invention may be catalyzed at temperatures from room temperature to 130 C. and are particularly applicable in or as coatings, adhesives, castings, composites, and sealants with good performance and extended pot-life.

TIN-FREE CATALYSIS OF SILANE-FUNCTIONAL POLYURETHANE CROSSLINKERS

GUANIDINE CATALYST FOR CURABLE COMPOSITIONS
20200048189 · 2020-02-13 · ·

A guanidine of the formula (I) and to the use thereof as catalyst for the crosslinking of a functional compound, especially a polymer having silane groups. The guanidine of the formula (I) described is preparable in a simple method via a polyfunctional carbodiimide adduct from the readily available raw materials, and is largely odorless at room temperature and of low toxicity. In spite of its comparatively high molecular weight, it accelerates the crosslinking of functional compounds surprisingly well, and such compositions do not have a tendency to migration-related defects such as separation, exudation or substrate soiling.
