The present invention relates to a process for preparing at least one polyisocyanate R(NCO)x, the process comprising preparing a mixture R1 comprising at least one polyamine R(NH.sub.2)x, with x=2 or more, in a first reaction zone Z1; passing at least a portion P1 of the mixture R1, P1 comprising R(NH.sub.2)x, into a storing device D1 and storing P1 in D1 for a period of time t1; removing, after storing for t1, at least a portion P2 of P1, P2 comprising R(NH.sub.2)x, from D1; passing P2 into a reaction zone Z2; and reacting, in Z2, R(NH.sub.2)x comprised in P2 with phosgene, obtaining a mixture R2 comprising the at least one polyisocyanate R(NCO)x; wherein t1 is in the range of from 1 minute to 7 d.

Tumor resection is commonly practiced to prevent the progression of cancer. However, there are post-surgery concerns including the formation of a void that can allow cancer cells to escape at the surgery site, which increases the risk of metastasis. To counter this challenge, an embodiment includes a polyurethane-based shape memory foam as a tissue void-filling device that can also release anti-cancer drugs. Such foams may activate at body temperature and become malleable. Such properties may enable the foam to be shaped to precisely seal the tissue void and then serve as a drug-eluting device. Based on the drug composition with poly vinyl alcohol (PVA), the drug release profile from the foam may be altered depending on the application.

Disclosed are (2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)methyl 2-bromo-2,2-difluoroacetate, a waterborne polyurethane, and preparation methods thereof. The (2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)methyl 2-bromo-2,2-difluoroacetate could be used as a modified monomer for preparing a waterborne polyurethane, and substituents at a C2 position of the (2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)methyl 2-bromo-2,2-difluoroacetate are two fluorine atoms and one bromine atom. When it is used for preparing the waterborne polyurethane, fluorine and bromine groups are introduced into the structure of the waterborne polyurethane, and the resultant waterborne polyurethane exhibits good moisture resistance and flame retardance.
