Ostomy appliance
An ostomy appliance including: first and second walls connected to each other at or near their peripheries, the first wall having a stoma-receiving opening; a connection member connected to the first wall for attaching the appliance to a user; a waste collecting chamber defined by the first and second walls for receiving waste and/or gas from the stoma-receiving opening; a further chamber defined by at least third and fourth walls which are connected to each other; a gas opening provided in either or both of the third or fourth walls for permitting waste gases to pass therethrough from the waste collecting chamber; a gas vent for permitting gases in the further chamber to escape to atmosphere; and wherein movement of the first and second walls away from each other, from waste or gases entering the waste collecting chamber, increases or at least maintains the volume of the further chamber.

System including a skin-engageable element of a medical appliance
A system for preserving functionality of a skin-engageable element for attachment to a skin portion of a user during storage including a skin-engageable element and a protective element having discrete portions projecting therefrom. The discrete portions are adapted to engage with through-going passages in an adhesive layer of the skin-engageable element, and ensure that the passages are open and passable when the protective element is removed before use of the skin-engageable element. A protective element attachable to a proximal adhesive side of a skin-engageable element for attachment to a skin portion of a user is also disclosed.

OSTOMY POUCH EMPTYING DEVICE AND METHOD OF USE
An ostomy pouch emptying device which has a receiver for receiving effluent from an ostomy pouch. The emptying device may accommodate disposable receptacles, such as emesis bags with integrated rims, or may directly interface with a receptacle such as a toilet bowl. The device can be used while standing or sitting, and may be secured to a wall or placed atop a lap of the user. An embodiment could also provide a portable system for disposing of the effluent from the ostomy pouch.
