FILLED POLYURETHANE OR POLYISOCYANURATE FOAM AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME

Polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foam stock and methods of manufacturing are described herein. The foam stock can include (a) a polyurethane or polyisocyanurate formed by the reaction of (i) one or more isocyanates selected from the group consisting of diisocyanates, polyisocyanates, and mixtures thereof, and (ii) one or more polyols; and (b) a filler present in an amount from greater than 50% to 90% by weight, based on the total weight of the foam stock. The density of the foam stock can be from 10 lb/ft.sup.3 to 35 lb/ft.sup.3. The flexural strength of the foam stock can be at least 100 psi. The resulting foam stock can be used to produce polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foam to be used in composite panels.

The present invention provides methods for producing molded golf balls and the resultant balls. The methods of this invention involve producing foamed polyurethane covers and these methods help reduce dimple distortions and other surface imperfections. These golf balls contain an inner core and outer foamed polyurethane cover. One or more intermediate layers can be disposed between the core and cover. In one embodiment, a castable liquid polyurethane composition containing a foaming agent is dispensed into mold cavities, which are then pressed together to form a foam cover for the ball.

The invention relates to isocyanate-based, storage-stable, one-part compositions that are fixable by irradiation with actinic radiation and curable by heat. The composition comprises (A) an at least bifunctional, solid isocyanate having a passivated surface and a melting point of at least 40° C.; (B) an isocyanate-reactive component selected from the group of alcohols, amines and thiols, and mixtures thereof; (C) a radiation-curable compound; and (D) a photoinitiator. Optionally, further additives (E) can be contained in the composition according to the present invention. The compositions, by fixation with actinic radiation, can be transferred into a state that ensures dimensional stability of the compositions during heat curing.
