Foam insulation with enhanced fire and smoke performance
A polyisocyanurate foam insulation product includes polyisocyanurate foam produced from reacting an isocyanate and a polyol blend having a functionality of at least 2.2. The isocyanate and the polyol blend are reacted so that the polyisocyanurate foam has an isocyanate index equivalent with or greater than 300. The polyisocyanurate foam includes a fire retardant and includes between 0.02 and 0.45 weight percent of a zinc salt compound. The foam insulation board exhibits a flame spread of no greater than 25 and a smoke index of no greater than 50 when exposed to flame conditions in accordance with an ASTM E-84 test.

A process for producing rigid PUR/PIR foams via the reaction of a reaction mixture comprising A1 an isocyanate-reactive component, A2 a flame retardant, A3 a blowing agent, A4 a catalyst, and A5 optionally auxiliaries and additives with B an organic polyisocyanate component. A novel phosphate polyol formulation is described, comprising a polyester polyol, a flame retardant comprising a phosphate polyol, a blowing agent, a catalyst, a surfactant, and a fire-retardant aromatic isocyanate. A further embodiment includes a phosphorus compound, such as a phosphate, a phosphate ester, or an alkyl phosphate such as triethyl phosphate.

Systems and methods provide a polyurethane foam. One method may obtainable the polyurethane foam by mechanical foaming with a starting mixture comprising a polyurethane dispersion, the polyurethane being composed of at least one polyisocyanate component and at least one polyol component, and at least one surfactant. The polyol component or at least one of the polyol components may comprise at least one comonomer having flame retardancy effect and containing two hydroxyl groups. The adhesive tapes produced therefrom may adhesively bond components in vehicles, aircraft or trains, or in electronic devices.
