HYDRATION PREVENTION COATING
Occlusion devices and delivery systems are described in which a polymerizing oil is used to protect a hydrogel from premature swelling. In an embodiment, a delivery system includes an occlusion device releasably coupled within a catheter sheath. The occlusion device includes an expandable implant and a hydrogel. An at least partially oxidized polymerizing oil is inside a lumen of the catheter sheath between the distal end of the catheter sheath and the hydrogel.
Reversible contraceptive implant system and method
A contraceptive or occlusion system for restricting and later opening up a reproductive tract or lumen of the vas deferens. The system is adapted to be reversible after implantation, including implantation on, around or within the vas deferens. A method and system to reconnect a severed body lumen, such as the vas deferens, is also provided.
Method of obtaining male contraception
There is provided a method for controlling a flow of fluid in the vas deferens in order to obtain a controlled male contraception. The method comprises gently constricting (i.e., without substantially hampering the blood circulation in the tissue wall) at least one portion of the tissue wall to influence the flow vas deferens, and stimulating the constricted wall portion to cause contraction of the wall portion to further influence the flow in the vas deferens. The method can be used for restricting or stopping the flow in the vas deferens, or for actively moving the fluid in the vas deferens, with a low risk of injuring the organ.
Contraceptive devices
Described are methods for reversible occlusion of a body lumen by way of degradation as a result of exposure to one or more stimuli such as light. The methods include administering one or more substance(s) into a body lumen of a subject and forming a stimuli-responsive polymer mass in the body lumen from the one or more substance(s). The mass is sufficient to occlude the body lumen in a manner that prevents transport of at least one material through the body lumen and is susceptible to on-command reversal in the body lumen upon exposure to one or more stimuli. The methods include administering one or more stimuli to a polymer mass in a body lumen for a time and intensity to cause the reverse the polymer mass. The methods are particular useful for applications in which it is desirable to temporarily occlude a body lumen, such as male and female contraception.
Implantable tube valve
Implantable tube valve for implanting in a human vessel, comprising a tube, having an inner and outer tube wall extending between two axial tube ends and comprising a valve member, connected to a pivot shaft supported by the tube, with the valve member pivotable between an open position and a closed position and comprising an actuator mechanism, mounted on the outer In tube wall and comprising a pivot member, arranged for driving the pivot shaft from the outer tube wall by an actuation force from the actuator mechanism and comprising at least one biasing element, connected to the pivot member and arranged for preloading the pivot member to bistably bias the valve member towards the open or closed position, wherein the pivot member is substantially curved, having a curvature following a contour of the inner tube wall to limit a lateral extension of the implantable tube valve.
Contraception apparatus for male
A male contraception apparatus includes a tube configured for insertion into the seminal duct. The tube has a hollow portion open at both ends. Positioned within the hollow portion is at least one filter. The filter includes a plurality of microchannels that extend through the filter and a plurality of nanospikes formed on one surface.
