A formulation for making at least one element of a golf ball, wherein the formulation includes: (i) from 50 weight percent to 95 weight percent of a thermoplastic composition comprising: (1) at least one ethylene acid copolymer consisting essentially of copolymerized comonomers of: (A) ethylene, and (B) from 5 weight percent to 25 weight percent of at least one α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid having from 3 carbon atoms to 8 carbon atoms, based on the total weight of monomers present in the ethylene acid copolymer; wherein the acid moieties of component (1) are neutralized to a level of from 25 percent to 220 percent; and (ii) from 5 weight percent to 50 weight percent of a crosslinked material having a gel content of at least 80 weight percent, wherein the crosslinked material is a crosslinked elastomer, a crosslinked rubber, or a blend of a crosslinked elastomer and a crosslinked rubber; a process for making the above formulation; at least one element of a multilayer golf ball and a process for making the at least one element of a multilayer golf ball using the above formulation; a multilayer golf ball including (a) at least one core, and (b) a cover; wherein the at least one core is made from the above formulation; and a process of manufacturing the above multilayer golf ball.

Thermoplastic Resin Composition and Molded Product Manufactured From Same

A thermoplastic resin composition of the present invention comprises: about 100 parts by weight of a polycarbonate resin; about 10 to about 40 parts by weight of a polyester resin; about 0.1 to about 1.0 parts by weight of a chain extender; about 50 to about 80 parts by weight of glass fibers; about 10 to about 25 parts by weight of a phosphorus flame retardant; and about 1 to about 7 parts by weight of a modified polyolefin, wherein the weight ratio of the polyester resin and the chain extender is about 1:0.01 to about 1:0.06. The thermoplastic resin composition is excellent in dimensional stability, flame retardancy, impact resistance, and the like.

A thermoplastic resin composition of the present invention comprises: about 100 parts by weight of a polycarbonate resin; about 10 to about 40 parts by weight of a polyester resin; about 0.1 to about 1.0 parts by weight of a chain extender; about 50 to about 80 parts by weight of glass fibers; about 10 to about 25 parts by weight of a phosphorus flame retardant; and about 1 to about 7 parts by weight of a modified polyolefin, wherein the weight ratio of the polyester resin and the chain extender is about 1:0.01 to about 1:0.06. The thermoplastic resin composition is excellent in dimensional stability, flame retardancy, impact resistance, and the like.

The instant invention is an aqueous based blend composition and method of producing the same. The aqueous based blend composition comprises (a) an aqueous polyolefin dispersion comprising the melt blending product of one or more base polymers and one or more stabilizing agents in the presence of water and optionally one or more neutralizing agents, wherein the polyolefin dispersion has an average volume particle size diameter in the range of from 400 to 1500 nm; and a pH range from 8 to 11; and (b) an acrylic emulsion acrylic solids having an average weight particle size diameter in the range of from 75 to 450 nm; an acid level in the range of from 0.25 to 5 percent by weight of acid monomers based on the weight of the acrylic monomer, and a weight average molecular weight in the range of from 200,000 to 5,000,000 g/mole, and a glass transition temperature (T.sub.g) in the range of from 7 to 100° C., wherein said acrylic emulsion has a pH in the range of from 7 to 11; wherein said aqueous based blend composition has a solid content in the range of from 15 to 70 percent by weight of solids, based on the weight of the aqueous based blend composition, and a pH in the range of from 7 to 11.

The present invention provides polymer blends that can be used in a multilayer structure and to multilayer structures comprising one or more layers formed from such blends. In one aspect, a polymer blend comprises (a) a copolymer comprising ethylene and at least one of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid having an acid content of 2 to 21 weight percent based on the weight of the copolymer, wherein the amount of copolymer (a) comprises 20-80 weight percent of the blend based on the total weight of the blend, and (b) a copolymer comprising ethylene and at least one of methyl acrylate and ethyl acrylate having an acrylate content of 5 to 30 weight percent based on the weight of the copolymer, wherein the amount of copolymer (b) comprises 10 to 50 weight percent of the blend based on the total weight of the blend, wherein the amount of copolymer (a) and copolymer (b) is at least 70 weight percent of the blend based on the total weight of the blend.

Mineral-filled polymer compositions and methods of forming such polymer compositions into a thermally stable article are provided. Methods of forming a polymeric article include providing a polymer composition comprising a crystallizable polymer, a mineral filler in an amount of more than about 15 wt-% based on the total weight of the polymer composition, and an impact modifier, wherein the polymer composition is at a temperature less than a crystallization temperature of the crystallizable polymer. The methods further include disposing the polymer composition in a mold, forming the polymer composition into an article within the mold, and releasing the article from the mold. The methods can include thermoforming the polymer composition in a mold, or injection molding the polymer composition in a molten form in a mold.
