Aqueous Primary Dispersions, Process Of Their Production And Use Thereof
The invention relates to aqueous, cationically stabilized primary dispersions comprising dispersed polymer particles having a Z-average particle diameter of 5 to 500 nm and which are obtainable by emulsion polymerization of at least one olefinically unsaturated monomer (A). The emulsion polymerization takes place in the presence of one or more emulsifiers (EQ) having the following general formula: R.sup.1N.sup.(R.sup.2)(R.sup.3)(R.sup.4)X.sup., where R.sup.1 is a moiety with 15 to 40 carbon atoms which contains at least one aromatic group and at least one aliphatic group, and which contains at least one functional group selected from hydroxyl groups, thiol groups, and primary or secondary amino groups, and/or has at least one carbon-carbon multiple bond, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4, independently of one another, are the same or different aliphatic moieties containing 1 to 14 carbon atoms, and X stands for the acid anion of an organic or inorganic acid. The invention further relates to a method for producing the primary dispersions, and to coating agents which include the primary dispersions, and to the use of the primary dispersions for producing electrodeposition coatings, and also to conductive substrates coated with the coating compositions. The invention further relates to emulsifiers which are used for producing the primary dispersions according to the invention.

Also disclosed are electrodepositable coating compositions and methods of coating substrates.
Method of improving the corrosion resistance of a metal substrate
The invention provides an electrodepositable coating composition comprising a resinous phase dispersed in an aqueous medium, said resinous phase comprising: (1) an ungelled active hydrogen-containing, cationic salt group-containing resin; (2) an at least partially blocked polyisocyanate curing agent; and (3) a pigment component, wherein the pigment component comprises an inorganic, platelike pigment present in the resinous phase, wherein the electrodepositable coating composition contains less than 8 percent by weight of a grind vehicle, based on the total weight of solids in the electrodepositable coating composition. The invention also provides methods of improving the corrosion resistance of a metal substrate and coated substrates.
Cationic electrodeposition coating composition
The present invention provides a cationic electrodeposition coating composition with a rust prevention property enhanced by improving the adhesion and the blocking property of a coating film obtained from a cationic electrodeposition coating composition as compared with conventional ones. The present invention provides a cationic electrodeposition coating composition including an aminated epoxy resin and a blocked polyisocyanate curing agent, wherein the aminated epoxy resin is an aminated epoxy resin obtained by reacting an amine compound with an epoxy resin, the aminated epoxy resin has a molecular weight distribution of 2.7 or less, and a rate of elongation of an electrodeposition coating film formed by applying the cationic electrodeposition coating composition to a steel sheet such that a cured film thickness is 20 m, followed by baking at 160 C. for 15 minutes, is 0.1 to 4.5%.
