Provided is a polarizer-forming composition from which a polarizer with a high degree of alignment and excellent heat resistance can be formed, a polarizer, and an image display device. The polarizer-forming composition includes a liquid crystal compound, and a dichroic material, in which the liquid crystal compound is a polymer liquid crystal compound, and a content of a component having a number average molecular weight of 1000 or less which is contained in the polymer liquid crystal compound is in a range of 0.10% to 5.0% by mass.

A liquid crystal composition with which a light absorption anisotropic film having a high alignment degree can be formed. The light absorption anisotropic film is used with the liquid crystal composition, a laminate, and an image display device. The liquid crystal composition contains a linear polymer liquid crystalline compound having a repeating unit; a low-molecular-weight liquid crystalline compound having a maximum absorption wavelength of 390 nm or less in a solution; and a dichroic substance.

A light absorption anisotropic film, an optical film, and a liquid crystal display device, with less defects and a high alignment degree even when the concentration of a dichroic substance is increased. The light absorption anisotropic film is formed of a liquid crystal composition containing a liquid crystal compound, a dichroic substance represented by Formula (C-1), a dichroic substance represented by Formula (C-2), in which a total content of the dichroic substances represented by Formula (C-1) and Formula (C-2) is 4.5% by mass or greater with respect to a total mass of a solid content of the liquid crystal composition, and the liquid crystal compound is vertically aligned. When R.sup.a1 and R.sup.a2 represent the same group, —N(R.sup.b11)(R.sup.b12) and —N(R.sup.b21)(R.sup.b22) are groups different from each other. When R.sup.a1 and R.sup.a2 represent different groups, —N(R.sup.b11)(R.sup.b12) and —N(R.sup.b21)(R.sup.b22) may be groups that are the same as or different from each other.
