Systems for Management of Dry Eye Syndrome
In implementations of systems for management of dry eye syndrome, a palpebral fissure width is determined as a distance between a medial canthus and a lateral canthus of closed eyelids. An ideal eyelash length is generated based on the distance. Prostheses having the ideal eyelash length are attached to candidate eyelashes of an upper eyelid of the closed eyelids. The prostheses introduce a turbulence to airflow around a tear film which prevents the tear film from evaporating. Dry eye syndrome is managed by preventing the tear film from evaporating.
System and method for eyelid stimulation
A system and method of treating hyperactivity of an eyelid closing muscle in a subject includes providing a stimulation system in the subject with the hyperactivity of the eyelid closing muscle, sensing an activity of the eyelid closing muscle, and selectively stimulating eyelid opening muscle(s) or innervating nerves, eyelid opening reflexes, or eyelid opening reflexes in non-muscular tissue, using the stimulation system, without substantially activating the eyelid closing muscle. The system and method evokes eyelid movement in the subject.
SYSTEM, METHOD, AND APPARATUS FOR MASSAGING THE EYELID
An apparatus massages an eyelid to move meibum unidirectionally through a meibomian gland duct toward a gland duct orifice at the eyelid margin in order to clear meibum blockage in the gland duct. The apparatus is configured to cyclically apply pressure to an application area of the eyelid, to move the applied pressure in a flow direction toward the gland duct orifice, and release the pressure applied to the application area of the eyelid. The apparatus includes an elongated massage arm configured to support a massage tip, which is configured to apply the pressure to the application area of the eyelid. A cam is rotatable about an axis of rotation and includes a cam surface. A follower includes a follower surface in sliding engagement with the cam surface. The follower is configured to impart massaging motion to the massage arm in response to rotation of the cam. The cam surface has a constant width curve configuration. The cam is configured so that a center of the cam surface is offset from the axis of rotation of the cam.
ACTIVE MAGNETIC PROSTHESIS FOR EYE-LID RE-ANIMATION
A device includes a frame, a rotatable housing and a permanent magnet. The frame is configured to be worn adjacent an eye region of a wearer. The rotatable housing is coupled to the frame. The permanent magnet is coupled to the rotatable housing and includes a first surface having a first static magnetic polarity and a second surface having a second static magnetic polarity opposite the first static magnetic polarity. The rotatable housing is arranged to rotate the permanent magnet between a first position orienting the first surface towards the eye region of the wearer and a second position orienting the second surface towards the eye region of the wearer. Related apparatus, systems, techniques and articles are also described.
Apparatuses and methods for diagnosing and/or treating lipid transport deficiency in ocular tear films, and related components and devices
Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for the diagnosis and removal of the devitalized and/or dead cell material formed in the lid margin to attempt to restore a normal lid margin. In this manner, the devitalized and/or dead cell material are removed or the amount present is reduced or no longer present to prevent, reduce, or affect the transport of lipid secreted by the meibomian glands to the tear film to reduce evaporative dry eye and improve dry eye conditions in patients. The diagnosis and removal of devitalized and/or dead cell material may be performed at desired intervals. Patients that suffer from conditions that block meibomian gland orifices, partial, infrequent, or inhibited blinking resulting in reduced lipid secretions from meibomian glands, and/or blockages in meibomian gland channels reducing secretion of lipids through the meibomian gland orifices may require more frequent diagnosis and treatment to remove devitalized and/or dead cell material.
Device And Method For Stimulating The Meibomian Glands Of The Eyelid
The invention relates generally to the field of medical devices and, more specifically, to a handheld device that stimulates the meibomian gland of the eyelid mechanically, and specifically stimulates the meibomian glands of the eyelid to treat Meibomian gland dysfunction, also known as Dry eye and chronic marginal eyelid inflammation.
MULTI-MODAL THERMAL THERAPY FOR BLEPHARITIS, MEIBOMIAN GLAND DYSFUNCTION AND DRY EYE SYNDROME
Methods for treating Blepharitis, Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and Dry Eye Syndrome include thermal massage, thermal debridement, and thermal expression. Particular embodiments include use of handheld devices that provide the thermal therapy to tissue by contacting a surface heated with thermal energy to a patient's tissue. Thermal energy can be continuously provided during operation. In particular embodiments, a handheld device comprises a base assembly operatively connected to a removeable thermal energy applicator. A wide range of thermal applicators may be connected to the base assembly to provide different treatments, including heat application, debridement, and expression of the treated tissue or gland.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR THE TREATMENT OF EYE CONDITIONS
Systems, methods, and devices used to treat eyelids, meibomian glands, ducts, and surrounding tissue are described herein. In some embodiments, an eye treatment device is disclosed, which includes a scleral shield positionable proximate an inner surface of an eyelid, the scleral shield being made of, or coated with, an energy-absorbing material activated by a light energy, and an energy transducer positionable outside of the eyelid, the energy transducer configured to provide light energy at one or more wavelengths, including a first wavelength selected to heat the energy-absorbing material. Wherein, when the eyelid is positioned between the energy transducer and the scleral shield, the light energy from the energy transducer and the heated energy-absorbing material of the scleral shield conductively heats a target tissue region sufficiently to melt meibum within meibomian glands located within or adjacent to the target tissue region.
MOLDABLE HEATER WITH MINIATURE HARMONIC RESONANCE FREQUENCY VIBRATION GENERATOR FOR OPTHALMIC EYELID THERAPY INCLUDING NEUROSTIMULATION DEVICE
Embodiments provide a moldable warming device, including a heating disc; a first harmonic resonance frequency stimulation vibration generator (RFSVG); a coupling device; a mask configured to hold the heating disc, the first harmonic RFSVG, and the coupling device for use in parallel utility; and a sensor array, the sensor array configured to determine tuning parameters of a vibration and heating profile of a user's individual eyelid, periorbital, and nasal three-dimensional anatomy and surface topography. According to at least one embodiment, the moldable warming device is configured to provide an eyelid surface and periorbital structures with therapeutic warmth, and the first harmonic RFSVG is configured to provide tuned harmonic resonance or non-resonance frequency stimulation vibration over the user's nasal bridge area through the user's nasal bone such that nasal sensory nerves are stimulated to induce tear production reflex in the user's lacrimal function unit.
