METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR THE SEPARATION OF METAL IONS FROM AN AQUEOUS FEED
Methods and systems for the extraction of metals from an aqueous feed solution containing the metal ions. The aqueous feed solution is contacted with one side of a hydrophilic membrane support while an organic liquid is contacted with an opposite side of the hydrophilic membrane support. Metal ions migrate from the aqueous feed solution through the membrane support and into the organic liquid. The metal ions may be re-extracted from the organic liquid using a strip solution. The steps of extraction and reextraction may be carried out in a system including two hollow fiber membrane modules that each include a plurality of hydrophilic polymer hollow fibers.

The present invention relates to a method of preparing a precursor material of a positive electrode active material from a waste lithium secondary battery, to a method of preparing a lithium secondary battery positive electrode active material including a precursor material prepared by the same precursor preparation method, and to a lithium secondary battery positive electrode active material prepared by the same positive electrode active material preparation method.
PRODUCTION METHOD FOR COBALT SULFATE
Provided is a method for separating impurities and cobalt without using an electrolysis process from a cobalt chloride solution containing impurities and producing a high purity cobalt sulfate. The production method includes: a first solvent extraction step (S1) of bringing an organic solvent containing an alkyl phosphoric acid-based extractant into contact with a cobalt chloride solution containing impurities, and extracting zinc, manganese, and calcium into the organic solvent to separate to remove zinc, manganese, and calcium; a copper removal step (S2) of adding a sulfurizing agent to a cobalt chloride solution and generating a precipitate of sulfide of copper to separate to remove copper; a second solvent extraction step (S3) of bringing an organic solvent containing a carboxylic acid-based extractant into contact with a cobalt chloride solution and back extracting cobalt with sulfuric acid after extracting cobalt into the organic solvent to obtain cobalt sulfate solution; and a crystallization step (S4) of the cobalt sulfate solution obtained after having undergone through the second solvent extraction step (S3). These steps are sequentially executed. Without using an electrolysis process, a high purity cobalt sulfate is directly produced by separating cobalt and impurities containing manganese.
ALLOY TREATMENT METHOD
An alloy treatment method is provided, in which a solution containing nickel and/or cobalt is obtained from an alloy containing nickel and/or cobalt and also containing copper and zinc, the method comprising: a leaching step for subjecting the alloy to a leaching treatment with an acid under the condition where a sulfating agent is present to produce a leachate; a reduction step for subjecting the leachate to a reduction treatment using a reducing agent to produce a reduced solution; an oxidation/neutralization step for adding an oxidizing agent and a neutralizing agent to the reduced solution to produce a neutralized solution containing nickel and/or cobalt and also containing zinc; and a solvent extraction step for subjecting the neutralized solution to a solvent extraction procedure using an acidic phosphorus compound-based extractant to produce a solution containing nickel and/or cobalt.
Method for producing metal zinc
A method for producing metal zinc by liquid/liquid extraction, comprising leaching of a zinc-bearing solid raw material containing antimony with a slightly acid aqueous solution, at a pH value maintained above 3 and less than or equal to 5, with formation of a suspension, drawing-off from the suspension of an aqueous phase containing zinc in solution to be subject to the extraction, additional leaching of the remaining suspension with an acid aqueous solution, at a pH value maintained below 3.5 and greater than or equal to 1, with formation of a pulp, introduction of a neutralizing agent in this pulp with coprecipitation of antimony and other impurities and separation from this neutralized pulp of a zinc-bearing aqueous solution which is recycled to the step for leaching the zinc-bearing solid raw material.

A variety of systems, methods and compositions are disclosed, including, in one method for recycling a spent alkaline battery comprising: dissolving insoluble metal ions in aqueous solution thereby producing pregnant leach solution; extracting zinc sulfate from aqueous solution thereby producing zinc sulfate product and raffinate solution comprising manganese sulfate and potassium sulfate; separating manganese hydroxide from raffinate solution thereby producing manganese sulfate product and aqueous potassium sulfate solution; crystallizing aqueous potassium sulfate solution to produce solid potassium sulfate product. A system for recycling spent alkaline battery comprising: first liquid-solid extraction unit capable of dissolving insoluble metal ions in aqueous solution thereby producing pregnant leach solution; liquid-liquid extraction unit capable of extracting zinc from pregnant leach solution; second liquid-solid extraction unit capable of precipitating manganese hydroxide from raffinate produced by liquid-liquid extraction unit; and third liquid-solid extraction unit capable of crystallizing aqueous potassium sulfate solution produced by second liquid-solid extraction unit.

A liquid-liquid extraction unit includes a feed compartment for receiving an aqueous phase and an organic phase, mixing feeder such as a pump for mixing the aqueous and organic phases and conveying the mixture under pressure to a reaction compartment where the mixture is subjected to an extractive reaction, and a resting compartment for separating the mixture back into an aqueous phase and an organic phase and from which each phase is recovered.

A method for processing positive electrode active material waste of lithium ion secondary batteries, the waste containing cobalt, nickel, manganese and lithium, the method including: a carbon mixing step of mixing the positive electrode active material waste in the form of powder with carbon to obtain a mixture having a ratio of a mass of carbon to a total mass of the positive electrode active material waste and the carbon of from 10% to 30%; a roasting step of roasting the mixture at a temperature of from 600° C. to 800° C. to obtain roasted powder; a dissolution step including a first dissolution process of dissolving lithium in the roasted powder in water or a lithium-containing solution, and a second dissolution process of dissolving the lithium in a residue obtained in the first dissolution process in water; and an acid leaching step of leaching a residue obtained in the lithium dissolution step with an acid.

A manganese-lithium separation process and a pre-extraction solution preparation process in comprehensive recovery of ternary battery wastes, and a method for comprehensive recovery of cobalt, nickel, manganese and lithium elements from the ternary battery wastes, relates to a method for recycling battery wastes. According to the present disclosure, cobalt and nickel ions are separated from an impurity-removed solution by a hydrolysis method; manganese, lithium and other ions in the impurity-removed solution are free from an extraction procedure, so that most manganese ions are separated and removed by a wet method before extraction, to prevent the manganese ions from entering the extraction system; nickel ions are free from an extraction procedure of full extraction and full back-extraction; and nickel hydroxide is directly precipitated after related impurities are removed by extraction.

A method of manufacturing a cobalt-nickel-containing solution including: preparing a crude nickel hydroxide and/or a crude cobalt hydroxide as a starting material, the crude nickel or cobalt hydroxide containing cobalt and nickel and elements except the cobalt and nickel as impurities, the crude nickel hydroxide containing the nickel more than the cobalt, and the crude cobalt hydroxide containing the cobalt more than the nickel; a water-washing process for obtaining a post-water-washing crude hydroxide from the starting material; a leaching process for obtaining a post-leaching solution from the post-water-washing crude hydroxide; a neutralization process of subjecting the post-leaching solution to neutralization and solid-liquid-separation to remove the impurities as a post-neutralization residue containing one or more of iron, silicon, aluminum, and chromium, thereby obtaining a post-neutralization solution; and an extraction process of subjecting the post-neutralization solution to solvent extraction to obtain a post-extraction solution containing cobalt and nickel with the impurities reduced.
