Chemical inhibition of pitting corrosion in methanolic solutions containing an organic halide

Pitting corrosion of stainless steel occurs in solutions of organic acid, such as tartaric acid, in an electrolyte solution with methanol. However, methanolic solutions containing at least one organic halide and at least one organic hydroxyl-acid and some water provide reduced pitting corrosion of stainless steel. The organic hydroxyacid may be a hydroxy acid containing 2 to 10 carbon atoms with at least one hydroxyl group and at least one carboxylic acid group, in a non-limiting example, glycolic acid. The pH of the methanolic solution may range from about 3.5 to about 8.

PRE-RINSE CONTAINING A QUATERNARY AMINE FOR CONDITIONING PRIOR TO A CONVERSION TREATMENT

A multi-step process for the anti-corrosive pretreatment of components component formed at least partially from metallic materials wherein first components are subjected to a conditioning wet-chemical treatment with an aqueous composition (A) that contains a salt of a quaternary amine and then to an additional wet-chemical treatment based on water-soluble compounds of the elements Zr, Ti and/or Si, in the course of which treatment a corresponding conversion of the surfaces of the metallic materials takes place, said treatment providing an anti-corrosive primer for additionally applied organic coatings.

Slurry biocide

The invention provides methods and compositions for addressing the problem of microorganism infestations and especially biocorrosion in slurry transporting pipelines. The method comprises treating pipeline fluid (especially plug fluid) with an oxidizing biocide in an amount higher than the oxidant demand of the pipeline and a non-oxidizing biocide in an amount less than 30% of the minimum necessary to sterilize the microbiological organisms. This treatment makes use of the unique characteristics of a slurry pipeline to eliminate microorganisms without harming the pipeline as would be expected by using an oxidizing biocide.
