Ceramic Composite Materials, Articles, and Methods
Methods of forming composite materials, composite materials, and articles. The composite materials may include electromagnetic shielding materials. The methods may include providing a mixture of ultra-high temperature ceramic particles and a liquid preceramic precursor, curing the mixture to form a solid mixture, forming particles of the solid mixture, and pressing the particles into a mold.
POLYCRYSTALLINE DIAMOND STRUCTURE
A polycrystalline diamond structure comprises a first region and a second region adjacent the first region, the second region being bonded to the first region by intergrowth of diamond grains. The first region comprises a plurality of alternating strata or layers, each or one or more strata or layers in the first region having a thickness in the range of around 5 to 300 microns. The polycrystalline diamond (PCD) structure has a diamond content of at most about 95 percent of the volume of the PCD material, a binder content of at least about 5 percent of the volume of the PCD material, and one or more of the layers or strata in the first region comprise and/or the second region comprises diamond grains having a mean diamond grain contiguity of greater than about 60 percent and a standard deviation of less than about 2.2 percent. There is also disclosed a method of making such a polycrystalline diamond structure.
Cubic boron nitride sintered material cutting tool
A cBN sintered material cutting tool includes a cutting tool body that is made of a sintered material including cubic boron nitride particles and a binder phase, in which: an average particle size of the cBN particles is 0.5 μm or less and a content ratio of the cBN particles in the sintered material is 35 vol % to 80 vol %; and the binder phase includes 1.0 vol % to 20 vol % of an Al compound, an average particle size of the Al compound present in the binder phase is 300 nm or less, and a value of a ratio (a value of S.sub.N/S.sub.O; area ratio) of a content S.sub.N of nitrogen (N) included in the Al compound to a content S.sub.O of oxygen (O) included in the Al compound is 1.1 to 5.
COMPOSITION, FILM FORMED FROM THE COMPOSITION, SLIDING MEMBER HAVING THE FILM, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME
A film is formed by use of a composition containing (A) a binder resin, (B) a hard particle, and (C) a solid lubricant selected from the group containing molybdenum disulfide and graphite, wherein the composition contains tungsten carbide as the hard particle, and wherein weight ratio of (B) the hard particles and (C) the solid lubricant, (B)/(C), is in the range of 1 to 3.
Hydrocarbon conversion
The invention relates to hydrocarbon conversion, to equipment and materials useful for hydrocarbon conversion, and to processes for carrying out hydrocarbon conversion, e.g., hydrocarbon pyrolysis processes. The hydrocarbon conversion is carried out in a reactor which includes at least one channeled member that comprises refractory and has an open frontal area≤55%. The refractory can include non-oxide ceramic.
IMPREGNATED FIBERS COMPRISING PRECERAMIC RESIN FORMULATIONS, AND RELATED COMPOSITE MATERIALS AND METHODS
A preceramic resin formulation comprising a polycarbosilane preceramic polymer, an organically modified silicon dioxide preceramic polymer, and, optionally, at least one filler. The preceramic resin formulation is formulated to exhibit a viscosity of from about 1,000 cP at about 25° C. to about 5,000 cP at a temperature of about 25° C. The at least one filler comprises first particles having an average mean diameter of less than about 1.0 μm and second particles having an average mean diameter of from about 1.5 μm to about 5 μm. Impregnated fibers comprising the preceramic resin formulation are also disclosed, as is a composite material comprising a reaction product of the polycarbosilane preceramic polymer, organically modified silicon dioxide preceramic polymer, and the at least one filler. Methods of forming a ceramic matrix composite are also disclosed.
Method for sintering metals, non-oxide ceramics and other oxidation-sensitive materials
A method for sintering metallic and/or non-oxide components includes completely encapsulating, in a metal halide salt, a green body comprising at least one metallic and/or non-oxide powder, and compressing the encapsulated green body so as to be gastight. The method further includes heating, together with a metal halide salt in the presence of oxygen up to sintering temperatures, the compressed, encapsulated green body. The method additionally includes at least partially dissolving, after cooling, the metal halide salt in a liquid so that the sintered component can be removed.
Preceramic ionic systems
A process of forming a Si-containing ceramic comprises forming a Si-based polymeric composition. The process includes neutralizing a charge of said Si-based polymeric composition. The process includes adding thermal energy under a controlled atmosphere to the Si-based polymeric composition. A turbine engine component comprises an airfoil and the airfoil comprises a Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) material.
High-entropy ultra-high temperature ceramic (HE-UHTC) coatings and deposition methods thereof
High-entropy ultra-high temperature ceramics (HE-UHTC) coatings deposited on substrates, as well methods for depositing the HE-UHTC coatings on the substrates, are provided. An HE-UHTC electrode can be fabricated via spark plasma sintering (SPS) and then a thin coating of the HE-UHTC can be deposited in a precision-controlled manner on a substrate via an electro-spark deposition process.
DENSE COMPOSITE MATERIAL, METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME, JOINED BODY, AND MEMBER FOR SEMICONDUCTOR MANUFACTURING DEVICE
According to the present invention, a dense composite material includes titanium silicide in an amount of 43 to 63 mass %; silicon carbide in an amount less than the mass percentage of the titanium silicide; and titanium carbide in an amount less than the mass percentage of the titanium silicide. In the dense composite material, a maximum value of interparticle distances of the silicon carbide is 40 μm or less, a standard deviation of the interparticle distances is 10 or less, and an open porosity of the dense composite material is 1% or less.
