Nickel-coated hexagonal boron nitride nanosheet composite powder, preparation and high performance composite ceramic cutting tool material
The invention relates to nickel-coated hexagonal boron nitride nanosheet composite powder, its preparation and high-performance composite ceramic cutting tool material. The composite powder has a core-shell structure with BNNS as the core and Ni as the shell. The self-lubricating ceramic cutting tool material is prepared by wet ball milling mixing and vacuum hot-pressing sintering with a phase alumina as the matrix, tungsten-titanium carbide as the reinforcing phase, nickel-coated hexagonal boron nitride nanosheet composite powder as the solid lubricant and magnesium oxide and yttrium oxide as the sintering aids. The invention also provides preparation methods of the nickel-coated hexagonal boron nitride nanosheet composite powder and the self-lubricating ceramic cutting tool material.

A cubic boron nitride sintered material comprises 30% by volume or more and 99.9% by volume or less of cubic boron nitride grains and 0.1% by volume or more and 70% by volume or less of a binder phase, the cubic boron nitride grain having a carbon content of 0.08% by mass or less, the cubic boron nitride sintered material being free of free carbon.

A method of producing a cubic boron nitride sintered material includes: forming an organic cubic boron nitride powder by attaching an organic substance onto a cubic boron nitride source material powder; preparing a powder mixture including more than or equal to 85 volume % and less than 100 volume % of the organic cubic boron nitride powder and a remainder of a binder source material powder by mixing the organic cubic boron nitride powder and the binder source material powder, the binder source material powder including WC, Co and Al; and obtaining the cubic boron nitride sintered material by sintering the powder mixture.

The present invention relates to a process for the production of fiber-reinforced composite materials with an ultra-refractory, high tenacity, high ablation resistant matrix with self-healing properties, prepared from highly sinterable slurries. The composite material is produced using techniques of infiltration and drying at ambient pressure or under vacuum, and consolidated by sintering with or without the application of gas or mechanical pressure.

CUBIC BORON NITRIDE SINTERED MATERIAL
A cubic boron nitride sintered material includes: more than 80 volume % and less than 100 volume % of cubic boron nitride grains; and more than 0 volume % and less than 20 volume % of a binder phase. The binder phase includes: at least one selected from a group consisting of a simple substance, an alloy, and an intermetallic compound selected from a group consisting of a group 4 element, a group 5 element, a group 6 element in a periodic table, aluminum, silicon, cobalt, and nickel. A dislocation density of the cubic boron nitride grains is more than or equal to 3×10.sup.17/m.sup.2 and less than or equal to 1×10.sup.20/m.sup.2.
SURFACE-COATED CUTTING TOOL
To provide a surface-coated cutting tool exhibiting excellent wear resistance in a high-speed cutting process and having prolonged service life. The surface-coated cutting tool includes a tool substrate containing WC crystal grains and insulating grains, and a coating layer composed of a multiple nitride of Ti, Al, and V and disposed on the surface of the tool substrate. The multiple nitride is represented by a compositional formula: Ti.sub.aAl.sub.bV.sub.cN satisfying the following relations:
0.25≤a≤0.35,
0.64≤b≤0.74,
0<c≤0.06, and
a+b+c=1
(wherein each of a, b, and c represents an atomic proportion). The coating layer is characterized by exhibiting a peak attributed to a hexagonal crystal phase and a peak attributed to a cubic crystal phase as observed through X-ray diffractometry.

The invention relates to an item made of a material consisting of a plurality of ceramic phases, said material including: a majority ceramic phase comprising nitrides and/or carbonitrides of one or more element(s) selected from among Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, and Ta, said majority ceramic phase being present in a percentage by weight comprised between 60 and 98%, at least one minority ceramic phase, with either one single minority ceramic phase formed of zirconium and/or aluminium silicide, or several minority ceramic phases formed respectively of carbides of one or more element(s) selected from among Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo and W and of zirconium oxides and/or aluminium oxides, said at least one minority ceramic phase being present in its entirety in a percentage by weight comprised between 2 and 40%.
The present invention also relates to the method for manufacturing this item.
Impregnated fibers comprising preceramic resin formulations, and related composite materials and methods
A preceramic resin formulation comprising a polycarbosilane preceramic polymer, an organically modified silicon dioxide preceramic polymer, and, optionally, at least one filler. The preceramic resin formulation is formulated to exhibit a viscosity of from about 1,000 cP at about 25° C. to about 5,000 cP at a temperature of about 25° C. The at least one filler comprises first particles having an average mean diameter of less than about 1.0 μm and second particles having an average mean diameter of from about 1.5 μm to about 5 μm. Impregnated fibers comprising the preceramic resin formulation are also disclosed, as is a composite material comprising a reaction product of the polycarbosilane preceramic polymer, organically modified silicon dioxide preceramic polymer, and the at least one filler. Methods of forming a ceramic matrix composite are also disclosed.

The cubic boron nitride sintered material is a cubic boron nitride sintered material comprising: cubic boron nitride particles in an amount of 70 vol % or more and less than 100 vol %, and a bonding material, wherein the bonding material includes an aluminum compound, and includes cobalt as a constituent element; the cubic boron nitride sintered material has a first region in which a space between adjacent cubic boron nitride particles is 0.1 nm or more and 10 nm or less; and when the first region is analyzed by using an energy dispersive X-ray analyzer equipped with a transmission electron microscope, the atom % of aluminum in the first region is 0.1 or more.
