Described is a catheter for being retained inside the body for extended periods, and a catheter mating device that can connect to the catheter to move the catheter inside of the body or remove it from the body. The catheter mating device has a stem with an apparatus at its distal end. The apparatus is moveable between a first position and a second position. When in its first position, the distal end is configured to fit in the proximal end of the catheter. When in its second position, the distal end engages the proximal end of the catheter and connects the catheter mating device to the catheter.

Biomimetic artificial bladder

Provided is an artificial bladder including: a main body which includes an inlet port, an outlet port, and a predetermined reservoir portion configured to store urine between the inlet port and the outlet port and is formed of a biocompatible polymer that is expandable so that a volume of the reservoir portion changes according to the amount of urine; a sensor which is attached to an outer wall of the main body, has a surface having a wrinkled structure, and is provided so that, when the volume of the reservoir portion increases, the wrinkled structure stretches out and resistance of the sensor changes; and an actuator which is provided at the outlet port and is configured to discharge the urine according a result detected by the sensor.

An artificial bladder system including an implantable bladder, a valve, a number of sensors, and an alert mechanism. The implantable bladder includes an outer wall forming a chamber for collecting urine of a user, the outer wall including inflow openings and an outflow opening. The valve is integrated with the outflow opening to selectively allow urine to flow from the chamber through the outflow opening. The sensors are configured to detect a urine level in the chamber. The alert mechanism is configured to generate a sensory output to alert the user that the bladder should be emptied upon detection of the urine level in the chamber by one of the sensors.

Ophthalmic assembly for implantation in an anterior chamber of an eye of a patient and method for accommodating the vision of the patient
11583387 · 2023-02-21 · ·

An ophthalmic assembly for implantation in an anterior chamber of an eye of a patient to provide accommodation of the vision to said patient comprises a variable-focus lens and an actuator for modifying the focal length of the variable-focus lens. The ophthalmic assembly comprises an autofocus system configured to determine a distance parameter of an object that the patient's eye is looking at; a signal processing unit arranged to convert said distance parameter into a focal length value of the variable-focus lens; and an actuator control unit configured to control the actuator as a function of the focal length value received from said signal processing unit. A method for accommodating the vision of a patient using an opthamalic assembly is also disclosed.

GLAUCOMA DRAIN IMPLANT SYSTEM WITH PRESSURE SENSOR AND VALVE, AND EXTERNAL READING UNIT

Glaucoma drainage implant system with intracular pressure sensor and microvalve, and external reading unit, including: (1) an ocular implant device including a main body attached to a cannula communicating through a microchannel passing therethrough with a sensor microchamber; the microchamber is in fluid communication with a microvalve regulating outlet passage of ocular liquid, the microvalve being covered by a plate in the main body, the implant device has also a flat coil energizing the sensor, microvalve and regulation microchip; and (2) an external reading unit receiving signals from the PIO sensor and displaying IOP pressure; the UEL includes an antenna and a main unit; where the antenna feeds by bursts of RF radio frequency energy to the implant sensor and when the sensor is energized, it returns a signal with information from the IOP, this signal being received by the antenna and sent to the main unit for processing.

MEDICAL DEVICE WITH SENSING CAPABILITIES

Example medical devices, including example stents and stent systems, are disclosed. An example stent includes an expandable tubular scaffold having a proximal end and a distal end, a first wire coupled to the tubular scaffold, wherein the first wire is shaped into a first coil. The example stent also includes a sensor electrically coupled to the first wire, wherein the sensor is inductively powered by a magnetic field passing through the first wire.

Stent apparatuses are provided. In some embodiments, the stent apparatus comprises: a tubular body; and at least two induction loops capable of generating an electrical current in the presence of one or more of magnetic, electrical, and radiofrequency energy. The stent apparatus may be placed in a non-target bodily tissue during surgery and used to sense the proximity of an electrosurgical instrument to prevent injury to the non-target tissue. Also provided herein are related systems and methods for protecting and/or mapping the non-target bodily tissue having the stent apparatus placed therein.

URINARY CATHETER OR PLUG AND METHOD FOR MANAGING URINARY INCONTINENCE
20230036376 · 2023-02-02 ·

The disclosure provides a device and method for managing urinary incontinence. The device includes a platform, a balloon, and a valve. The platform and balloon can include a silicone material, a thermoplastic material, and an adhesive and/or a cement for sealing the urethra. The thermoplastic and silicone materials can soften at the body temperature so that their shape can be adapted to fit the three-dimensional contour of surfaces of the urethra. The balloon seals the internal orifice of the urethra, and the platform can block the leakage associated with the balloon. The valve permits selective urine voiding. The method includes inserting the device into the urethra and the bladder. The method can also include inflating the balloon. The method can further include pulling the balloon so that the balloon is in sealing contact with the neck of the bladder and moving the platform to a suitable position for sealing the urethra.

Method for communicating with implant devices

Disclosed is a reader device, system, and method for communicating with a wireless sensor. The reader device may be configured to communicate wirelessly with an implant device associated with a proprietary system provided by a first entity. An external device, that may not be associated with said first entity, is provided and is configured to be calibrated to communicate with the implant device that is located within a patient. The external device may be used in place of an existing reader device that was initially calibrated to communicate with the implant device prior to the implant device being placed within the patient. The external device may be particularly useful for implant devices that communicate wirelessly with external devices where said implant devices are intended to be located within the human body on a permanent or indefinite duration of time.
