Stabilized fabric material for medical devices
A stabilized fabric composed of a mesh or a woven fabric is disclosed as are methods of their manufacture, the manufacture of medical devices made using a stabilized fibers and stabilized medical devices are all disclosed. Fabrics can be stabilized by several techniques including: using mechanical, chemical and/or energetic fasteners at warp and weft intersections in the weave; by using various weaving techniques and fibers. Meshes can be stabilized when properly dimensioned and arranged junctions and struts of the necessary properties are used. All of these stabilized fabrics can be made of synthetic polymer materials such as ultrahigh molecular weight PE or PP and expanded PTFE.
Hybrid heart valves adapted for post-implant expansion
A hybrid prosthetic heart valve configured to replace a native heart valve and having a support frame configured to be expanded post implant in order to receive and/or support an expandable prosthetic heart valve therein (a valve-in-valve procedure). The prosthetic heart valve may be configured to have a generally rigid and/or expansion-resistant configuration when initially implanted to replace a native valve (or other prosthetic heart valve), but to assume a generally expanded form when subjected to an outward force such as that provided by a dilation balloon or other mechanical expander. An inflow stent frame is expandable for anchoring the valve in place, and may have an outflow end that is collapsible for delivery and expandable post-implant to facilitate a valve-in-valve procedure.
Corneal implants
Reversibly deformable corneal implants for replacing excised corneal tissue, the implants including an optical portion and an anchoring portion having different mechanical properties from each other.
Accommodating intraocular lens
An intraocular lens (IOL) for implantation within a capsular bag of a patient's eye comprises an optical structure and a haptic structure. The optical structure comprises a planar member, a plano convex member, and a fluid optical element defined between the planar member and the plano convex member. The fluid optical element has an optical power. The haptic structure couples the planar member and the plano convex member together at a peripheral portion of the optical structure. The haptic structure comprises a fluid reservoir in fluid communication with the fluid optical element and a peripheral structure for interfacing to the lens capsule. Shape changes of the lens capsule cause one or more of volume or shape changes to the fluid optical element in correspondence to deformations in the planar member to modify the optical power of the fluid optical element.
Stented heart valve devices and methods for atrioventricular valve replacement
A compressible and expandable stent assembly for implantation in a body lumen such as a mitral valve, the stent assembly including at least one stent barrel that is shaped and sized so that it allows for normal operation of adjacent heart structures. One or more stent barrels can be included in the stent assembly, where one or more of the stent barrels can include a cylinder with a tapered edge.
Prosthetic heart valves with elastic support structures and related methods
Prosthetic heart valves having elastic leaflets and an elastic support structure are described. The support structure can store a load transferred from the leaflets as potential energy and then release it in the form of kinetic energy to exhibit a precursory transition from the closed position to the open position. The support structures can exhibit a sinusoidal movement profile at a base edge during the precursory transition.
Hybrid accommodating intra-ocular lens and method of use thereof
An intra-ocular lens having an air-filled collapsible cavity situated between two optical elements wherein air is transferred from optical regions of the collapsible cavity to its peripheral haptic regions after being compressed by external force.
Medical cannulae, delivery systems and methods
The disclosure relates to cannulae, delivery systems, methods of making cannulae, and methods of making delivery systems. A delivery system comprises an elongate outer tubular member defining an outer tubular member lumen, a cannula having a circumferential wall extending between a proximal end and a distal end and defining an interior lumen, and an intraluminal medical device disposed within the outer tubular member lumen distal to the cannula and not about the cannula. A pattern of openings arranged in an interrupted spiral extends circumferentially along the cannula.
INTRAOCULAR LENSES WITH SHAPE-CHANGING OPTICS AND STABILIZING PROPERTIES
An intraocular lens (IOL) with a shape-changing optic is provided. The shape-changing optic includes an elastic anterior face located anterior to the equator. The anterior face has an anterior surface, a posterior surface, and a periphery. The shape-changing optic also includes a posterior face having an anterior surface, a posterior surface, and a periphery. An elastic side wall can extend across the equator and extend from the anterior face to the posterior face. A chamber can be located between the anterior face and the posterior face. The IOL can further include at least one haptic extending from the periphery of the anterior face, the periphery of the posterior face, or both.
GUIDEWIRE FOR IMPROVED REPLACEMENT HEART VALVE DELIVERY
An improved guidewire may include an elongate shaft including a distal section and a proximal section extending proximally from the distal section. The elongate shaft includes a coiled portion disposed within the distal section. The coiled portion is curved in a first direction in a first plane. The elongate shaft includes a reverse curve portion curved in a second direction opposite the first direction. The reverse curve portion is disposed proximal of the coiled portion. A kit for forming the improved guidewire may include a guidewire having a coiled portion and a forming tool configured to form a reverse curve portion in the guidewire proximal of the coiled portion.
