Mannich detergents for hydrocarbon fuels
New, highly effective substantially pure Mannich detergents for use in hydrocarbon fuels reduce engine deposits in spark and compression ignition internal combustion engines. The Mannich condensation reaction products are obtainable by reacting: (i) a polyamine having primary amino groups, (ii) a hydrocarbyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic compound, and (iii) an aldehyde, wherein the reaction is conducted at in a molar ratio of (i):(ii):(iii) of approximately 1:2:3. The Mannich detergent compounds may be dispersed in a liquid carrier to provide a fuel additive concentrate for hydrocarbon engine fuels which effectively control engine deposit formation in intake valves, port fuel injectors and combustion chambers.
Friction reducing additive
An automotive engine oil and/or fuel comprising a base stock and an organic polymeric friction reducing additive is claimed. A method of reducing friction in an automotive engine oil and/or fuel by the addition of the organic polymeric friction reducing additive to the base stock is also claimed.
ADDITIVE AND FUEL COMPOSITIONS
An additive composition, on use in a fuel in a spark-ignition internal combustion engine, controls the formation of sludge and piston varnish. When used in a direct injection spark-ignition internal combustion engine, particulate emissions and deposit formation on intake valves may also be controlled. When used in a port fuel injection spark-ignition internal combustion engine, the port fuel injection valve deposits may be reduced. The additive composition comprises a polyalkylene amine and a hydrocarbyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic compound. The additive compositions may be present in a fuel composition.
Amine salts for use in gasoline engines
Fuel compositions comprising at least 10 ppm by weight of a succinic ester acid amine salt or a succinamide acid amine salt (both “amine salt(s)”). The amine salt is the product of (a) and (b), wherein: (a) is an amine with (i) at least one tertiary nitrogen and (ii) at least one hydroxy alkyl functional group and/or at least one secondary amine functionality; and (b) is a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acid/or anhydride. The molar ratio of (a) to (b) may range from 3:1 to 1:3. The fuel composition may comprise gasoline, oxygenate, or mixtures thereof. Methods and uses for reducing carbonaceous deposits in an engine comprising operating the engine using the fuel composition having an amine salt therein.
REACTIONS AND METHODS FOR PRODUCING FUELS
The present disclosure relates to a composition that includes a compound having the structure R.sub.1O—(CH.sub.2O).sub.n—R.sub.2 and a cetane number between about 65 and about 100, where n is between 1 and 10, inclusively, R.sub.1 includes a first alkyl group, and R.sub.2 includes a second alkyl group.
ADDITIVES FOR WINTERIZATION OF PARAFFIN INHIBITORS
A winterized paraffin inhibitor, which is capable of being used for preventing the deposition of paraffins in hydrocarbon streams and capable of withstanding freezing or crystallization at freezing or sub-freezing temperatures, may be formed by adding an oxyalkylated branched aliphatic compound having 12 or more carbons to a high molecular weight aliphatic polymer paraffin inhibitor, the oxyalkylated branched aliphatic compound having 12 or more carbons being produced by the oxyalkylation of the branched aliphatic compound having 12 or more carbon atoms in which the branched aliphatic compound having 12 or more carbon atoms is grafted with a polyether via a ring-opening reaction, wherein the polyether is a polymer of ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, butylene oxide, and combinations thereof.
Winterized pour point depressants
This disclosure relates to winterized pour point depressant compositions for petroleum fluids. Such compositions exhibit stability and are flowable at temperatures down to as low as −47° C., without the need for further dilution.
Quaternary Ammonium Compound and Fuel Composition
A quaternary ammonium compound of formula (I): wherein R.sup.0, R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 is each independently an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group; X is a linking group; R.sup.4 is an optionally substituted alkylene group; n is a positive integer; W is O.sup.− or OH; b is 1 when W is OH, and b is 2 when W is O.sup.−.

There is additionally provided emulsions comprising a fuel, water and an emulsifier and methods of producing emulsions.
Protection of liquid fuels
The formation in a liquid hydrocarbon fuel of ice particles having a weight average particle size greater than 1 μm when said liquid hydrocarbon fuel is cooled to temperatures in the range of from 0 to −50° C. can be reduced or eliminated by use of at least one surfactant that is capable of dispersing water in said liquid hydrocarbon fuel to provide a stable clear water-in-oil microemulsion wherein the droplet size of the dispersed water phase is no greater than 0.25 μm.
