Ceramic preform and method
The present application discloses a ceramic preform, a method of making a ceramic preform and a metal matrix composite comprising a ceramic preform. In one exemplary embodiment, the ceramic preform comprises a ceramic compound compressed into the shape of a cylinder by rotational compression molding. The cylinder has an inner surface and an outer surface. A first liner may be attached to the inner surface of the cylinder and a second liner may attached to the outer surface of the cylinder. The metal matrix composite of the present application may be formed as a brake drum or a brake disc.
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A REFRACTORY PART MADE OF COMPOSITE MATERIAL
A method of fabricating a part out of composite material, includes forming a fiber texture from refractory fibers; placing the texture in a mold having an impregnation chamber including in its bottom portion a part made of porous material, the impregnation chamber being closed in its top portion by a deformable impermeable diaphragm separating the impregnation chamber from a compacting chamber; injecting a slip containing a powder of refractory particles into the impregnation chamber; injecting a compression fluid into the compacting chamber, to force the slip to pass through the texture; draining the liquid of the slip via the porous material part, while retaining the powder of refractory particles inside the texture so as to obtain a fiber preform filled with refractory particles; drying the fiber preform; unmolding the preform; and sintering the refractory particles present in the preform in order to form a refractory matrix in the preform.
Combustor liner and method of operating same
The gas turbine combustor liner can delimit a combustion chamber, and have at least one monolithic ceramic block having a first face exposed to the combustion chamber and a second face opposite the first face, and a 3D fabric of ceramic fibers partially embedded inside the monolithic ceramic block, and partially extending outside the second face of the monolithic ceramic block, away from the combustion chamber.
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING PART MADE OF COMPOSITE MATERIAL
A method of fabricating a part out of composite material, includes forming a fiber texture from refractory fibers; impregnating the fiber texture for a first time with a first slip containing first refractory particles; eliminating the liquid phase from the first slip so as to leave within the texture only the first refractory particles; impregnating the fiber texture for a second time with a second slip containing second refractory particles; eliminating the liquid phase from the second slip so as to leave within the texture only the second refractory particles and obtain a fiber preform filled with the first and second refractory particles; and sintering the first and second refractory particles present in the fiber preform in order to form a refractory matrix in the preform.
MICROSTRUCTURED FIBER INTERFACE COATINGS FOR COMPOSITES
Disclosed is a coated ceramic fiber including a silicon carbide coating layer adjacent to the ceramic fiber and a silicon dioxide coating layer adjacent to the silicon carbide coating layer, wherein the silicon dioxide coating layer forms micro cracks after a crystal structure transformation. The coated ceramic fiber may be included in a composite material having a ceramic matrix.

A system and method for forming a ceramic matrix composite blade track is provided. The method may include stacking a plurality of first plies to form a first porous preform layer, the first plies including a plurality of first ceramic fibers. The method may further include stacking a plurality of second plies to form a second porous preform layer, the second plies including a plurality of second ceramic fibers. The method may further include combining the first porous preform layer and the second porous preform layer to form a unified porous preform. The method may further include forming a structural layer by infiltrating the first porous preform with a first ceramic matrix material, and forming an abradable layer by infiltrating the second porous preform with a second ceramic matrix material.

A heat-insulating protective member for skid posts contains a needled blanket of inorganic fibers. At least some of the needled blanket has, disposed therein, an impregnation part where an oxide-precursor-containing liquid is adherent in an undried state. The impregnation part has a water content of 50-400 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the inorganic fibers of the impregnation part. The water content of the heat-insulating protective member is 50-400 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the inorganic fibers of the heat-insulating protective member. The oxide-precursor-containing liquid contains ingredients that, upon burning, yield a composition containing Al.sub.2O.sub.3 and CaO. The oxide-precursor-containing liquid is adherent in an amount of 2-50 parts by mass in terms of oxide amount per 100 parts by mass of the inorganic fibers of the impregnation part. A molar ratio of Al/Ca, in the whole impregnation part is 10-330.
REDUCING SURFACE NODULES IN MELT-INFILTRATED CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITES
The disclosure describes techniques for infiltrating a porous preform with a slurry to form an infiltrated-preform, where the slurry includes a plurality of solid particles, where the plurality of solid particles include a plurality of fine ceramic particles defining an average fine particle diameter, a plurality of coarse ceramic particles defining an average coarse particle diameter, and a plurality of diamond particles, where the average fine particle diameter is less than the average coarse particle diameter, and infiltrating the infiltrated-preform with a molten metal infiltrant to form a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) article.
Metal matrix composite
The present invention relates to a metal matrix composite (MMC). The MMC includes a preform formed from a composition having ceramic particles and ceramic fibers and defining a plurality of voids. The metal matrix composite also includes a support element, such as a metal, disposed within the voids of the preform. The MMC has a wear surface defined by both the preform and the support element.
Monolithic ceramic rods to enable cooling holes in CMC
A method to form a hole in a ceramic matrix composite component may be provided. A monolithic rod may be inserted into a porous ceramic preform. The ceramic preform may be formed into a ceramic matrix composite body that includes the monolithic rod. A portion of the monolithic rod may be removed, leaving a remaining portion in the ceramic matrix composite body. The remaining portion may include walls that define the opening in the ceramic matrix composite body. Alternatively or in addition, a ceramic matrix composite component may be provided. The ceramic matrix composite component may comprise a ceramic matrix composite body that includes a portion of a monolithic rod. The portion of the monolithic rod forms a lining around a hole passing partly or entirely through a length of the monolithic rod.
