Antimicrobial cationic polycarbonates and polyurethanes have been prepared comprising one or more pendent guanidinium and/or isothiouronium groups. Additionally, antimicrobial particles were prepared having a silica core linked to surface groups comprising a guanidinium and/or isothiouronium group. The cationic polymers and cationic particles can be potent antimicrobial agents against Gram-negative microbes, Gram-positive microbes, and/or fungi.

A liquid adhesive coating composition that cures into a solid form, used to non-permanently adhere interior floor or wall coverings to substrate floor or wall surfaces respectively, includes a polymer incorporating iron or other paramagnetic, superparamagnetic, ferromagnetic, or ferrimagnetic ingredients, that becomes permanently adhered to the substrate as it cures, and thereafter provides a low-tack adhesive surface that is also magnetically attractive, upon which magnetized floor or wall coverings including certain types of carpet, linoleum, vinyl, wallpaper, and other types of magnetically-backed coverings can be subsequently installed. The combined low-tack adhesive and magnetic adhesion qualities of the cured composition of the invention allow for the magnetically-backed floor or wall coverings to be sufficiently well adhered to the surface of the cured adhesive composition to remain in place during normal usage while retaining the ability for the coverings to be subsequently removed, repositioned or replaced without damaging the respective coverings, adhesive coating composition layer, or substrate.

Method for producing flexographic printing plates from a photopolymerizable flexographic printing plate with a dimensionally stable support, photopolymerizable, relief-forming layer(s), and a digitally imagable layer. The method comprises (a) producing a mask by imaging the digitally imagable layer, (b) exposing the flexographic printing plate with a plurality of UV-LEDs on a UV-LED strip through the mask with actinic light, and photopolymerizing the image regions of the layer, and (c) developing the photopolymerized layer. In the UV-LED strip or in a separate strip, at least one ultrasonic sensor is arranged for determining the thickness of the flexographic printing plate for exposure. Depending on the measured thickness of the flexographic printing plate, the exposing of the flexographic printing plate is controlled in respect of: (i) number of exposure steps, exposure intensity, energy input per exposure step, duration of the individual exposure steps, and/or overall duration of exposure.

CROSS-LINKED ORGANOSILICON NETWORKS THAT DEGRADE WITH FLUORIDE SALTS

Disclosed herein is a method and thermoset made by: reacting a di- or tri-functional isocyanate with a silyl-containing compound to form a polyurethane having at least one unreacted isocyanate group, reacting the polyurethane with an aminoalkylalkoxysilane to form an alkoxysilane-terminated polyurethane, and moisture-curing the alkoxysilane-terminated polyurethane to form the thermoset. The silyl-containing compound has the formula: SiR.sup.1.sub.n[R.sup.3(OCOXR.sup.3).sub.mOH].sub.4-n. Each X is O or NR.sup.2; each R.sup.1 is an alkyl group or an aryl group; each R.sup.2 is H, an alkyl group, or an aryl group; each R.sup.3 is an alkylene group; n is 0, 1, or 2; and each m is a non-negative integer. The thermoset may be degraded by treatment with a solution of a fluoride salt in an organic solvent.

ROTAXANE AND POLYURETHANE USING THE SAME

An object of the present invention is to provide a novel rotaxane and a polyurethane using the same. The present invention provides a rotaxane having a crown ether and a chain molecule piercing through the cyclic structure of the crown ether, wherein a hydroxyl group exists at one terminal of the chain molecule, and a hydroxyl group bonds to the cyclic structure of the crown ether. The present invention further provides a polyurethane using the rotaxane as a polyol component.
