Measurement system configured to support installation of a ball and socket joint and method therefor
A system is disclosed herein for providing a kinetic assessment and preparation of a prosthetic joint comprising one or more prosthetic components. The system comprises a prosthetic component including sensors and circuitry configured to measure load, position of load on a curved surface, joint stability, range of motion, and impingement. In one embodiment, the system is for a cup and ball joint of a musculoskeletal system. The system further includes a computer having a display configured to graphical display quantitative measurement data to support rapid assimilation of the information. The kinetic assessment measures joint alignment under loading that will be similar to that of a final joint installation. The kinetic assessment can use trial or permanent prosthetic components. Furthermore, adjustments can be made to the applied load magnitude, position of load, and joint alignment by various means to fine-tune an installation.
DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS FOR POSITIONING AN ANCHOR FOR AN ARTIFICIAL CHORDAE TENDINEAE
Implantable devices formed of materials which are not readily imageable, and which may shift from a delivery configuration to a deployment configuration upon deployment, are delivered and deployed with a deployment/delivery device having sensors generating a signal indicating contact of the delivery/deployment device with tissue to guarantee purchase of the implantable device with tissue upon deployment. The implantable device may be a tissue anchor with talons which shift from a delivery configuration to a deployed configuration. The sensors may be positioned along a distal end of the delivery/deployment device to indicate purchase of the device with tissue, to ensure purchase of the talons with tissue upon deployment. The sensors may include at least three sensors, which may be spaced apart from one another, to indicate full contact of the distal end of the delivery/deployment device with tissue. The sensors may optionally be aligned with the talons.
Bow stent
A stent having a main linear strut and at least two secondary struts. The main linear strut includes an outer member and an inner member. A distal end of one secondary strut may be attached to a distal end of the inner member. A proximal end of a secondary strut may be attached to a proximal end of the outer member. The ends of the secondary struts that are not attached to the inner and outer member may be joined. Methods of delivering such a stent and collapsing and withdrawing such a stent are also disclosed.
Methods and Systems for Creating a Fluid and Pressure Equilibrium Between the Sub-Arachnoid Space and the Intraocular Compartment
A method for controlling intraocular pressure in a patient’s eye is provided. The method includes creating an intraocular entry into the eye, selecting a location along an optical disc of the eye, creating a conduit connecting at least a portion of an intravitreal cavity with at least a portion of a subarachnoid space in the eye at the selected location, deploying at least one stent communicating between the intravitreal cavity and the subarachnoid space via the conduit, and equilibrating the intraocular pressure in the eye by allowing the stent to communicate fluid flow between the intraocular compartment and the subarachnoid space.
SURGICAL IMPLANT POSITION DETECTION
Systems, methods, and devices are disclosed for surgical systems comprising an applicator having a first shaft, an implant having a first member pivotably and detachably coupled to the first shaft, and a second member for converting rotational motion of the implant to a translational offset, and at least one of a sensor for determining the offset or an indicator for indicating the offset, provided that the indicator is not a protrusion located at an end of the applicator. A controller may be provided, the controller being configured to receive offset data from the sensor, determine an angle of the implant in a patient using dimensions of the implant and the offset, and display a current position of the implant relative to patient anatomy. The applicator may have a second shaft slidably disposed on the first shaft along an axis defined by a longitudinal axis of the applicator.
Percutaneous Valve Implants
An apparatus for implantation at an annulus (75) of an intracardiac valve includes an annuloplasty ring (110) comprising a plurality of rotatably adjoining segments (112). The ring is configured to pass over multiple threads (58), respective distal ends of which are distributed over the annulus, and, while passing over the threads, expand from a collapsed state to an expanded state by virtue of the segments rotating with respect to each other. The apparatus further comprises a lock (114), configured to lock the ring in the expanded state at the valve by inhibiting rotation of the segments with respect to each another. Other embodiments are also described.
SELF-SEALING TUBULAR GRAFTS, PATCHES, AND METHODS FOR MAKING AND USING THEM
A self-sealing tubular graft is provided for implantation within a patient's body that includes an elongate tubular body including first and second self-sealing cannulation regions and a loop region extending between the first and second cannulation regions. The loop region includes one or more reinforcement members attached to a first length of the loop region and extending at least partially around a circumference of the tubular body. For example, the reinforcement members may include one or more sinusoidal or zigzag members extending along the first length with alternating peaks and valleys extending at least partially around a circumference of the tubular body. Self-sealing patches are also provided that include one or more reinforcement members embedded within base material.
Medical product comprising a functional element for the invasive use in a patient's body
So as to be able to determine the position of a functional element as precisely as possible during the invasive use of a blood pump in a patient's body without the use of imaging methods, the blood pump is connected to a main sensor which records signals of the patient's heart, which are compared to other electrophysiological heart signals recorded by several sensors distributed on the body surface so as to allow the position of the blood pump to be determined by way of linking.
Glaucoma treatment device
Methods and devices are adapted for implanting into the eye. An incision is formed in the cornea of the eye and a shunt is inserted through the incision into the anterior chamber of the eye. The shunt includes a fluid passageway. The shunt is passed along a pathway from the anterior chamber through the scleral spur of the eye into the suprachoroidal space and positioned in a first position such that a first portion of the fluid passageway communicates with the anterior chamber and a second portion of the fluid passageway communicates with the suprachoroidal space to provide a fluid passageway between the suprachoroidal space and the anterior chamber.
IMPLANTABLE MEDICAL DEVICE WITH REDUCED MIGRATION CAPABILITIES
Medical devices and methods for making and using a medical device are disclosed. An example medical device may include a stent that comprises a first covered region formed of one or more interwoven filaments and a covering. The stent may also comprise a second uncovered region adjacent the first covered region. The second uncovered region may include a knitted filament. A first end of the knitted filament may be attached to the first covered region. The knitted filament is configured to be unraveled to remove both the first covered region and the second uncovered region of the stent while the first end of the knitted stent remains attached to the first covered region.
