Liquid crystal composition and liquid crystal display device
A liquid crystal composition includes a polymerizable compound (or polymer) and a polar compound, where the homeotropic alignment of liquid crystal molecules can be achieved by the action of these compounds, and a liquid crystal display device includes such a composition. A nematic liquid crystal composition has positive dielectric anisotropy and includes a polymerizable compound as a first additive and a polar compound as a second additive, and the composition may include a specific liquid crystal compound having a large positive dielectric anisotropy and a specific liquid crystal compound having a high maximum temperature or a small viscosity, and a liquid crystal display device includes such a composition.
LIQUID CRYSTAL COMPOSITION AND APPLICATION THEREOF
A liquid crystal composition includes at least one compound of general formula I and at least one compound selected from a group consisting of the compounds of general formula II-1 and general formula II-2. The liquid crystal composition provided by the present invention has suitable optical anisotropy, high clearing point, high elastic constants K.sub.11 and K.sub.33, and relatively low dielectric anisotropy. When the liquid crystal composition is applied to a liquid crystal display device, the liquid crystal display device may have better weather resistance and higher contrast ratio.

LIQUID CRYSTAL COMPOSITION AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE COMPRISING SAME
The present invention provides a liquid crystal composition and a liquid crystal display device thereof. The liquid crystal composition comprises at least one compound of general formula I and at least one compound of general formula II. The liquid crystal composition has a larger vertical dielectric constant (.sub.), a larger ratio of the vertical dielectric constant to the absolute value of dielectric anisotropy (.sub./||), a larger K.sub.ave value and a higher transmittance while maintaining an appropriate clearing point, an appropriate optical anisotropy, and an appropriate absolute value of the dielectric anisotropy, such that the liquid crystal display device comprising the same has a better contrast, a faster response speed and a better transmittance while maintaining an appropriate range of operating temperature and an appropriate threshold voltage.

The liquid crystal display component includes the liquid crystal composition. The liquid crystal composition has a lower viscosity, can achieve a fast response, and further has a moderate dielectric anisotropy , a moderate optical anisotropy n, and a high stability to heat and light. The liquid crystal display component including the liquid crystal composition has the characteristics of a broader nematic phase temperature range, a suitable birefringence anisotropy, a very high electrical resistivity, a good anti-ultraviolet property, a high charge retention ratio, and a fast response.

The liquid crystal composition disclosed in the present invention has an excellent performance, an optical anisotropy in the range of 0.080 to 0.150, a low rotary viscosity, a fast response time, and good chemical, optical and thermal stabilities, and is very suitable for manufacturing liquid crystal display elements, particularly suitable for active matrix display elements, such as active matrix displays using a VA, FFS or IPS mode.

The present invention relates to liquid-crystal (LC) media as defined in claim 1, to the use thereof for optical, electro-optical and electronic purposes, in particular in LC displays, and to LC displays containing said LC media. The invention in particular relates to LC media with improved response time that enable energy saving displays.
