A self-propelled track drive module for an emergency stretcher, includes a left-side track drive unit and a right-side track drive unit. A frame, having a front end and a rear end, is disposed between the left-side track drive unit and the right-side track drive unit. The frame has a mounting structure for receiving an emergency stretcher and for releasably securing the emergency stretcher to the frame. The mounting structure is configured to support the emergency stretcher such that rolling wheels of the emergency stretcher do not contact a ground surface therebelow when the emergency stretcher is in a mounted condition.

The head portion defines a recess. At least one handle assembly is pivotally coupled to the head portion. The at least one handle assembly includes an elongate member coupled to the head portion proximate the recess. The elongate member is operable between a stowed position and a deployed position. The elongate member is disposed over the head portion when in the stowed position. A handle extends from a distal end of the elongate member. The handle extends at an acute angle relative to a longitudinal axis of the elongate member.

A patient transport apparatus transports a patient over a floor surface. The patient transport apparatus comprises a support structure and support wheels coupled to the support structure. An auxiliary wheel is coupled to the support structure to influence motion of the patient transport apparatus over the floor surface to assist users. An actuator is operatively coupled to the auxiliary wheel and operable to move the auxiliary wheel relative to the support structure from a retracted position to a deployed position. A user interface sensor is operatively connected to the actuator and configured to generate signals responsive to the user touching the user interface. A controller is operatively coupled to the user interface sensor and the actuator to operate the actuator in response to detection of signals.

EMERGENCY STRETCHER WITH TRACK DRIVE

A self-propelled emergency stretcher includes an elongate frame having a set of wheels a track drive unit mounted thereto. The set of wheels includes first wheels at a front end of the frame and second wheels at a rear end of the frame, and the track drive unit is mounted between the first wheels and the second wheels. A plurality of actuators is configured to raise and lower the first wheels and the second wheels relative to the frame, so as to selectively switch the emergency stretcher between a self-propelled configuration and a manually-propelled configuration. In the self-propelled configuration the first wheels and the second wheels are out of contact with a ground surface below the emergency stretcher and the track drive unit is in contact with the ground surface. In the manually-propelled configuration the first wheels and the second wheels are in contact with the ground surface and the track drive unit is out of contact with the ground surface.

A controller is coupled to the sensing system and to the actuator, and is configured to drive the actuator to move the auxiliary wheel between the plurality of wheel positions based on the motion condition of the patient transport apparatus.
