A golf ball paint composition includes primarily a urethane paint made of a polyol and a polyisocyanate. The polyol is an acrylic polyol, and the composition has an elastic work recovery of at least 70%. The paint composition has a high self-repairing ability and is of high quality as a golf ball paint. Golf balls coated with this composition are able to maintain a good durability, in addition to which they have an excellent abrasion resistance and an excellent ball appearance.

A method of forming a multilayer coating on a substrate is provided. The multilayer coating exhibits reduced strike-in and mottling. The method includes the steps of providing the substrate including a primer disposed thereon, applying a basecoat composition on the primer, applying a clearcoat composition on the basecoat composition, and curing the basecoat composition and the clearcoat composition to form the multilayer coating on the substrate. The basecoat composition includes a film forming resin, a pigment, and about 5% to about 75% by weight on binder of a cyclic lactone modified branched acrylic polymer having a hydroxyl monomer content of about 1% to 65% by weight, all or part of which has been reacted with a cyclic lactone, and having a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of about 10,000 to about 150,000 g/mol.

Disclosed herein is a 2K clearcoat coating composition including (A) from 10% to 70% by weight of a first resin having at least one primary hydroxyl group; (B) from 2% to 40% by weight of a second resin including a resin (B-1) having at least one primary hydroxyl group and/or a resin (B-2) having at least one secondary hydroxyl group; and (C) a crosslinker including at least one polyisocyanate and at least one amino resin, and the weight percentages of components (A) and (B) are based on the total weight of the coating composition and the ratio by weight between components (A) and (B) is in a range of from 6:1 to 1:2. Further disclosed herein is an article coated by the coating composition and the article may have metal substrates.
