Also disclosed is a method for evaluating the degree of reduction in a disease symptom caused by a virus that comprises βC1 and belongs to the family Geminiviridae.

SOLANACEOUS PLANT RESISTANT TO VIRUS OF GENUS BEGOMOVIRUS CAUSING TOMATO YELLOW LEAF CURL SYMPTOMS, SOLANACEOUS PLANT CELL, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SOLANACEOUS PLANT
20220033840 · 2022-02-03 ·

Present invention relates to a virus resistant solanaceous plant, a solanaceous plant cell, and a method for producing the solanaceous plant, and the solanaceous plant has inhibitory properties against: infection by a virus of genus Begomovirus causing tomato yellow leaf curl symptoms, proliferation of the infected virus, and/or expression of infection symptoms. The present invention provides a solanaceous plant having a mutation in at least one gene selected from a group consisting of translation initiation factor eIF4E gene, receptor-like kinase RLK gene, coatomer complex deltaCOP gene, nuclear shuttle protein interactor NSI gene, and genes homologous thereto. The mutation in such a solanaceous plant either inhibits the expression of the mutated gene or makes a protein encoded by the mutated gene to be non-functional for the virus, and the solanaceous plant has virus resistance against the above-mentioned virus.

BEGOMOVIRUS RESISTANCE RELATED GENES

The present invention relates to a modified PriL gene, which encodes a modified protein which may comprise one or more modifications in the wild type protein sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 or SEQ ID NO: 3 or in a protein sequence having at least 60% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO: 1 or SEQ ID NO: 3. Alternatively, the wild type of the modified PriL gene encodes a protein according to SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 3, SEQ ID NO: 7, SEQ ID NO: 11, SEQ ID NO: 13, SEQ ID NO: 15, SEQ ID NO: 17, SEQ ID NO: 19, SEQ ID NO: 21, SEQ ID NO: 23, SEQ ID NO: 25, SEQ ID NO: 27, SEQ ID NO: 29, or SEQ ID NO: 31. The modification in the wild type protein sequence is an amino acid substitution.

Tolerance in plants of Solanum lycopersicum to the tobamovirus tomato brown rugose fruit virus (TBRFV)

The invention relates to a Solanum lycopersicum plant comprising in its genome QTLs confering to the plant an improved phenotype corresponding to foliar and/or fruit tolerance and/or resistance to Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit virus, with respect to a corresponding plant devoid of said QTLs, and wherein said QTLs are chosen from those present in the genome of a plant of the seeds HAZTBRFVRES1 NCIMB accession number 42758. The QTL are preferably characterized by defined alleles of different SNPs on chromosome 6, 9 and 11. The invention is also directed to parts of these plants with improved phenotype, as well as progeny, to the use of these plants for introgressing the improved phenotype in another genetic background, as well as to different methods for obtaining tomato plants or seeds with increased foliar and/or fruit tolerance or resistance to Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit virus.
