APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR POSITIONING A PATIENT
20220323280 · 2022-10-13 · ·

A patient positioning system includes a patient support device and a positioning apparatus including a body comprising a front end, a first lateral side, a second lateral side, and a ramped surface between the first lateral side and the second lateral side, a tail extending from the front end of the body, the tail comprising an elongated piece of material, and a directional guide material coupled to or integrated with the ramped surface and configured to interface with the patient support device, wherein the directional guide material inhibits relative movement in a first direction between the patient support device and the positioning apparatus more than relative movement in a second direction between the patient support device and the positioning apparatus.

Independently adjustable support system

Apparatus and methods for adjusting a support to a body are described in which a portable support assembly may be worn or used by a bed-stricken or wheel-chair restricted individual around particular regions of the body where pressure ulcers tend to form. The portable support assembly may generally include adjustable supports which conform the assembly to the patient's body and which also help to distribute one or more fluid pad assemblies relative to the body. The support assembly may be incorporated into a design for a wheelchair or a bed.

ANTI-SLIDE BODY SUPPORT

A body support for use with a bed having a top end, a bottom end and a mattress, including a back vertical wall removably mountable at the bottom end of the bed in a fixed position in which the wall extends across the bed and above the mattress, a front vertical wail extending parallel to the back wall above the mattress, and a scissor jack disposed between, secured to and connecting the front wall and the back wall so as to be capable of expanding and contracting horizontally to move the front wall away from and toward the back wall above the mattress in maintained parallel relation to the back wall, whereby the front wall serves as a foot support for an individual lying on the bed and is positionally adjustable in accordance with the individual's height. A pad may be removably mounted on the front wall.

System and method to detect and prevent neonate fall from an infant care device

An infant care device includes a mattress and mattress tray configured to support a baby and an enclosure/barrier surrounding the mattress to create a chamber around the baby. A plurality of sensors, such as load cells, are distributed beneath the mattress and mattress tray. A control unit receives information from the load cells and is able to determine the position of the baby on the mattress. A safe zone and a potential fall zone are defined in the control unit. When the determined location of the baby is within the potential fall zone, the control unit operates a resistance mechanism to restrict movement of the baby toward a perimeter edge of the mattress and generates an alarm. Multiple embodiments of the resistance mechanism are disclosed to restrict the movement of the baby.

NON-INVASIVE APPARATUSES FOR MITIGATING PRESSURE APPLIED TO A HUMAN BODY AND ASSOCIATED SYSTEMS AND METHODS
20210307975 · 2021-10-07 ·

Introduced here are apparatuses and systems for mitigating contact pressures applied to a human body by the surface of an object, such as a chair, bed, or table. A pressure-mitigation apparatus can include a series of chambers whose pressure can be individually varied. When placed between a patient and a contact surface, the pressure-mitigation apparatus can vary the contact pressure on a specific anatomical region of the patient by controllably inflating and/or deflating one or more cell. Moreover, a pressure-mitigation system can be readily integrated into a conventional treatment regimen for a variety of different conditions.

Person support apparatus with ingress/egress assist

Embodiments include a person support apparatus including a plurality of air fluidizable material, a tub, a foam bolster disposed along at least one wall of the tub and extending over the at least one wall, and an inflatable air bladder disposed above the foam bolster along the at least one wall of the tub. A method of assisting a person with ingress or egress of a person support apparatus by deflating the inflatable air bladder and adjusting a level of fluidization of the air fluidizable material such that the surface supporting the portion of the person is substantially level with a top of the foam bolster is also described.

Systems, methods, and devices for treatment of sleep disorders

A sleep apparatus, such as a mattress, comprises a head support surface sized to support a person's head, and a torso support surface sized to support a person's torso. The head support surface is generally laterally sloped moving from a first side toward a second side of the mattress, and the torso support surface is generally laterally sloped moving from the first side toward the second side. In some embodiments, the lateral slope of the head support surface is at least about 15°, the lateral slope of the head support surface is greater than the lateral slope of the torso support surface, and/or, the sleep apparatus slopes in the longitudinal direction as well.

A system for use with a bed having a frame and a supporting surface includes a sheet having a bottom surface placed above the supporting surface of the bed, a top surface, and a plurality of tether straps connected to and extending from the sheet. Each tether strap is configured for connection to the bed. The bottom surface is at least partially formed of a low friction material, and the top surface is at least partially formed of a high friction material, such that the top surface provides greater slipping resistance than the bottom surface. The tether straps include at least two pairs of tether straps, with one pair connected proximate a top edge of the sheet and another pair connected proximate a bottom edge of the sheet. The sheet may further include a sliding member on the bottom surface to assist in lateral sliding of the sheet.
