PROCESS FOR MAKING HIGH-PERFORMANCE POLYETHYLENE MULTIFILAMENT YARN
Processes for making high-performance polyethylene multi-filament yarn are disclosed which include the steps of a) making a solution of ultra-high molar mass polyethylene in a solvent; b) spinning of the solution through a spinplate containing at least 5 spinholes into an air-gap to form fluid filaments, while applying a draw ratio DR.sub.fluid; c) cooling the fluid filaments to form solvent-containing gel filaments; d) removing at least partly the solvent from the filaments; and e) drawing the filaments in at least one step before, during and/or after said solvent removing, while applying a draw ratio DR.sub.solid of at least 4, wherein in step b) each spinhole comprises a contraction zone of specific dimension and a downstream zone of diameter Dn and length Dn with Ln/Dn of from 0 to at most 25, to result in a draw ratio DR.sub.fluid=DR.sub.sp*DR.sub.ag of at least 150, wherein DR.sub.sp is the draw ratio in the spinholes and DR.sub.ag is the draw ratio in the air-gap, with DR.sub.sp being greater than 1 and DR.sub.ag at least 1. High-performance polyethylene multifilament yarn, and semi-finished or end-use products containing said yarn, especially to ropes and ballistic-resistant composites, are also disclosed.

A fiber includes an elongated member and refractive index contrast domains dispersed within the elongated member. The elongated member includes at least one polymer having a transmittance of infrared radiation at a wavelength of 9.5.Math. of at least about 40%.
YARN FOR CELL CULTURE SCAFFOLD, PLY YARN COMPRISING SAME AND FABRIC COMPRISING THE SAME
A yarn including a plurality of twists formed by twisting single fiber strand or multiple fiber strands; and fiber grooves, which are spaces formed between the twists, to provide three-dimensional growth spaces and migration paths for cells. Accordingly, a cell proliferation rate and cell viability may be enhanced by creating microenvironments suitable for migration, proliferation and differentiation of cultured cells. In addition, cell clusters having more uniform shapes may be easily implemented by forming the proliferation spaces and migration paths for the cultured cells as similar as possible to each other in each scaffold. Further, the cells cultured thereby can be cultured in a suitable shape and structure to be applied to an in vitro experimental model or transplanted into the body of an animal, and can be widely applied in various products used in a cell culture or tissue engineering field.

In a stretch yarn (1) comprising a stretchable core (2) covered by an inelastic fibers sheath (3) the stretchable core (2) comprises first and second fibers (4, 5) that have elastic properties, the first fiber (4) is an elastomer and the second fiber (5) is a polyester based (co)polymer, the amount of the second fiber being in the range of 60-90% (w/w) of the total weight of the fibers of the stretchable core (2); the first and second fibers are connected together at least at a plurality of points (P).
COMPOSITE STRETCH YARN, PROCESS AND FABRIC
