A lightweight reinforced mesh, such as a surgical mesh, suitable for use in various applications, including breast reconstruction, cosmetic breast surgery, mastopexy, breast augmentation, breast reduction, soft tissue reconstruction, hernia repair, tissue plication reinforcement, tissue support and repair, tendon support and repair, tissue engineering, and procedures or other applications requiring additional soft tissue strength or thickness. In addition, disclosed is a use of such a mesh for tissue engineering, regardless of the surgical application. In particular, the present disclosure relates to a surgical mesh capable of providing enhanced support while maintaining flexibility, low density, and absorbable characteristics. Items formed using stitching equipment with adjustable-shape fixtures

The stitching may be formed from a chain stitch that passes through the holes. The holes may be formed from loops of knit fabric or other holes. Leather layers, polymer layers, fabric layers, and other structures with holes may be joined using the stitching. During fabrication, a layer of material with holes may be placed on an adjustable-shape fixture having a bed of needles. The shape of the bed of nails in the adjustable-shape fixture may then be changed. After the fixture has been used to transform the shape of one or more of the structures, the structures may be placed on needles in an assembly fixture and the stitching between the structures may be formed. The item may be an electronic device cover or other item.

Fabrics comprising regenerated cellulose fibers and a nanoparticle dispersed throughout the fabric are disclosed herein. The regenerated cellulose fibers can be derived from a biomass such as a fibrous cellulose, wood pulp, cotton, paper, bast fiber, bagasse, or a combination thereof. The nanoparticle included in the fabric can be chosen to confer a desirable property, such as a thermal insulating property, to the fabric. Methods of making the fabrics comprising the regenerated cellulose fibers and nanoparticle are also provided. The method can include (a) at least partially dissolving a cellulose substrate in a medium comprising one or more ionic liquids; and dissolving or suspending a nanoparticle in the medium; (b) recovering a solid nanoparticle-modified regenerated cellulose material comprising the cellulose substrate and the nanoparticle; and (c) processing the solid nanoparticle-modified regenerated cellulose material to form the fabric.
