Disclosed is a washing machine having a cabinet forming an outer appearance and having an inlet port formed at the front, a tub provided inside the cabinet for storing wash water, a drum provided inside the tub to be rotatable, and a door installed in the cabinet for opening and closing the inlet port. The door is provided with an auxiliary door which can be freely opened and closed during the washing process independently of the door, so that laundry can be added even during the washing process.

The opening/closing part includes: a locker coupled to or separated from the hook through a rotational motion when the hook advances and retreats; a locker support member that is hinge-coupled to the case, is coupled to the locker to support the rotation of the locker, and rotates in the advancing or retreating direction of the hook during the rotational motion of the locker; and an elastic member positioned between the bottom. surface of the case and the locker support member to press the locker support member in one direction.

An appliance (10) for drying and/or washing laundry includes an autonomous fire extinction device (20). The fire extinction device has pipe (26) with an elongate shape and closed at both its longitudinal ends (26x). The pipe includes a fusible thermoplastic wall defining an internal space. The pipe is thermoformed to give it a particular shape in the unconstrained free state corresponding to its mounted position inside the enclosure (12). An extinguishing fluid (29) is inside the space, and is configured to be released by fusion of the pipe wall (26) under the effect of heat produced by a fire or an incipient fire.

The receiver power coil may be mounted to the door in selective electromagnetic communication with the transmitter power coil to receive an electromagnetic field therefrom. The electronic component may be in electrical communication with the receiver power coil to receive power therefrom.

Disclosed are a washing machine and a control method thereof, capable of preventing occurrence of an accident related to a child or a pet being inside a washing tub. A washing machine according to an aspect of the present disclosure includes a concentration sensing part configured to a sense a concentration of a specific component in air measured inside or outside the washing tub, a controller configured to switch the door and the washing tub to a safe mode based on the concentration of the specific component sensed by the concentration sensing part, and a release signal detector configured to detect a release signal for switching the door and the washing tub, which have been switched to the safe mode by the controller, back to a normal mode.
