Certain aspects relate to systems and techniques for articulating medical instruments. In one aspect, the instrument includes a wrist having at least two degrees of freedom of movement, and an end effector coupled to the wrist. The end effector can include an upper jaw, a lower jaw, and a firing mechanism configured to form staples in tissue. Actuation of the firing mechanism can be decoupled from the movement of the wrist in the at least two degrees of freedom.

PATIENT SUPPORT APPARATUS WITH AUTOMATIC EXIT DETECTION MODES OF OPERATION
A patient support apparatus, such as a bed, cot, stretcher, etc., for supporting a patient includes an exit detection system with multiple user-selectable modes of operation that each have different sensitivity levels for triggering an exit alert. The exit detection system also includes one or more non-user selectable modes of operation that are automatically implemented in response to a triggering action. For example, a transition mode may be automatically implemented when the user attempts to switch from a first user-selectable mode to a different user selectable mode, or a motion mode may be automatically implemented when movement of one or more components of the patient support apparatus occurs. In the transition mode, the exit detection system may use a least restrictive sensitivity level. In the motion mode, the exit detection system may inhibit exit alerts and/or change the criteria for issuing the exit alert.
Patient support apparatus tracking system
A patient support apparatus tracking system includes at least one of a frame, mattress, and mattress cover. A radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag may be embedded within the at least one of the frame, mattress, and mattress cover. The RFID tag may include an identification memory unit including read-only sort-prefix data corresponding to the one of the frame, mattress, and mattress cover and a service memory unit comprising a read/write configuration including a greater amount of digital storage than the identification memory unit. The RFID tag may be configured to receive a log of configurable equipment updates into the service memory unit and communicate the sort-prefix from the identification memory unit and the log of equipment updates to a controller via a reader device.
HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES NAVIGATION SYSTEM
Systems and methods for navigating a residence include a first household appliance, a second household appliance, a beacon, and a portable user interface device. The systems and methods include determining a plurality of paths through the residence. The systems and methods also include receiving, from a user interface of the portable user interface device, an input comprising a selected destination and determining a current location of the portable user interface device based on a short-range radio signal after receiving the input. The systems and methods further include selecting one path from the plurality of paths through the residence. The one selected path starts at or near the determined current location of the portable user interface device and terminates at the selected destination. The systems and methods also include providing guidance to and along the one selected path.
CASTOR BASE WITH LOAD SENSOR
Systems and methods for a load sensing system that determines a mass on a bed. The systems generally are in the form of a castor base, particularly one that can be used as part of an adjustable hospital bed. The load sensing system serves to determine the mass of any object or objects (typically a human or animal patient) which is placed on the bed by having the mass create a force on lever arms of a plurality of load cells in the castor base. The load sensing systems are designed to work without hindering the adjustable functionality of the bed and can accurately determine mass (weight) at any position of the bed, and potentially even while the bed is adjusting between positions.
SYSTEM FOR LOADING/UNLOADING AN AMBULANCE STRETCHER ONTO/FROM AN AMBULANCE
An ambulance stretcher, which comprises: a support frame for supporting a patient; a pair of front legs, each having a front wheel; a pair of rear legs, each having a rear wheel; an actuation arrangement provided with a front actuator, which moves the pair of front legs and a rear actuator, which moves the pair of rear legs; and a front coupling body connected to a front end of the support frame; a control unit of the coupling body provided at least a first sensor connected to the coupling body and configured to detect a correct positioning of the coupling body in a respective support coupling of an automatic loading/unloading apparatus of an ambulance, and at least a second sensor connected to the coupling body configured to detect a load bearing on the coupling body; at least one release arrangement arranged at the front end of the support frame and configured to operate a release between the coupling body and the support coupling; and an electronic control unit operatively connected to the actuation arrangement, to the release arrangement and to the control unit and configured to actuate one between the actuation arrangement and the release arrangement as a function of a signal received from at least one between the first sensor and the second sensor of the control unit.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR UPDATING CONTROLLER FOR MOBILITY DEVICE
An apparatus for updating a controller for a mobility device includes a communication device that receives information associated with updating one or more controllers included in the mobility device, transmits the information associated with the updating to a terminal of a user or an interface of the mobility device, and receives information about an update preference of the user based on the information associated with the updating from the terminal of the user, and a management device that generates at least one of whether to update the one or more controllers or an update sequence of the one or more controllers, based on the information about the update preference.
Systems and methods to adjust bone cut positioning based on bone hardness
Systems and methods for adjusting bone cut positioning are disclosed that can aid in optimizing implant size selection and positioning relative to bone during, e.g., orthopedic surgical procedures such as knee arthroplasty, hip arthroplasty, etc. In one embodiment, such a surgical method can include performing a first bone cut of a first bone using an at least partially robot-assisted surgical instrument, detecting one or more parameters related to bone hardness, selecting a bone hardness index based on the one or more detected parameters, and adjusting a position of a second bone cut of the first bone based on the selected bone hardness index to optimize implant fit relative to bone. Detecting the one or more parameters related to bone hardness can be performed in a number of manners, including by monitoring energy required to perform the first bone cut.

A personal electronic device holder with a clamp is described. The clamp including a body having a U-shape, a first surface, and a second surface. The first surface and the second surface positionable to selectively clamp against a side rail of health care facility equipment. The holder also includes a structure for retaining and powering or providing data and power to a personal electronic device at the end of a positionable arm connected to the clamp.
