A method for operating a washing machine appliance includes flowing a volume of liquid into a tub, agitating articles within the tub for a first period, the tub containing the volume of liquid, and measuring movement of the tub during agitation of the articles within the tub, the tub containing the volume of liquid. The movement is measured using an accelerometer and a gyroscope. The method further includes agitating articles within the tub for a second period when the final measured movement is greater than an out-of-balance movement threshold, the tub containing the volume of liquid. The method further includes draining liquid from the tub when the final measured movement is less than the out-of-balance movement threshold, and spinning a basket after draining liquid from the tub.

A method for operating a washing machine appliance includes flowing a volume of liquid into a tub, and agitating articles within the tub for a first period and using a first agitation profile, the tub containing the volume of liquid. The method further includes measuring movement of the tub during agitation of the articles within the tub, wherein the step of measuring movement occurs after agitating articles within the tub for the first period and for an intermediate measurement period and using an intermediate agitation profile, and wherein the intermediate agitation profile is different from the first agitation profile. The method further includes agitating articles within the tub for a second period when the final measured movement is greater than an out-of-balance movement threshold. The method further includes draining liquid from the tub when the final measured movement is less than the out-of-balance movement threshold.

A method for operating a washing machine appliance includes flowing a volume of liquid into the tub, and agitating articles within the tub for a first period, the tub containing the volume of liquid. The method further includes draining a first portion of the volume of liquid from the tub, the first portion less than the volume flowed into the tub, wherein a sum of the first portion and a second portion of the volume of liquid remaining in the tub equals the volume. The method further includes measuring movement of the tub during agitation of the articles within the tub after draining the first portion of the volume of liquid from the tub, wherein the step of measuring movement occurs after agitating articles within the tub for the first period and for an intermediate measurement period.

WASHING MACHINE HAVING REMINDING FUNCTION FOR PREVENTING CLOTHING FROM FADING AND METHOD

A washing machine having a reminding function for preventing clothing from fading, comprising: an outer drum for accommodating washing water; a color sensor arranged on the washing machine and detecting the color of the washing water, so that according to changes in the color of the washing water in a washing process, it is determined whether the clothing being washed is fading or not. Detection of the color of the washing water achieves the aim of determining, according to the changes in the color of the washing water, whether the clothing being washed is fading or not, thereby improving the sensitivity and accuracy of determination, and preventing a situation wherein fading clothing contaminates the washing water then causes secondary contamination of other clothing being washed.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF OPERATING A WASHING MACHINE APPLIANCE TO DETECT AND MITIGATE OUT-OF-BALANCE CONDITIONS

A washing machine appliance includes a wash basket that is rotatably mounted within a wash tub and that defines a wash chamber for receiving a load of clothes. A motor assembly selectively rotates the wash basket, a drain pump assembly selectively drains wash fluid from the wash tub, and a camera assembly is used to monitor an out-of-balance value to minimize out-of-balance issues. Specifically, a controller of the washing machine appliance uses the camera assembly to obtain one or more images of the wash chamber, analyze the one or more images using a machine learning image recognition process to determine the out-of-balance value of the load of clothes in the wash basket, and perform a cloth redistribution process based at least in part on determining that the out-of-balance value is greater than a predetermined out-of-balance threshold.
