The electrode pair includes a first electrode fixed to a first surface of the housing and a second electrode fixed to a second surface of the housing. The electrode pair is actuatable between a non-actuated state and an actuated state such that actuation from the non-actuated state to the actuated state directs the dielectric fluid into the expandable fluid region, expanding the expandable fluid region thereby applying pressure to the outer layer of the liner body.

The pump cartridge is removable from the pump cartridge receptacle to permit the blower to be repaired or replaced without having to discard the mattress. Ambient air is supplied to the blower by way of a tuned air pump inlet path that winds between a pair of sound absorbing blocks. Air is blown front the blower to the air plenum by way of a tuned air manifold that is located inside the mattress to inflate the air plenum. Bluetooth compatible sensors located inside the mattress are responsive to physical parameters to which the mattress is subjected.

A bed includes a mattress set on which a user's body is placed, an adjustable bedframe to adjust a position or orientation of the mattress set for various sitting and sleeping positions, and a dryer to dry the mattress set. The dryer includes a fan, a filter, and a heater to discharge filtered hot air toward the dryer to reduce mildew and mites. A humidity sensing sheet may be provided to sense a humidity level at different regions or areas of the bed, and the dryer may be controlled to supply hot air to regions of the bed having a higher humidity level than a predetermined humidity level or humidity range.

A patient support apparatus, such as abed, cot, stretcher, or the like, includes a frame, support surface, exit detection system, and control. The exit detection system includes multiple sensors and a controller configured to issue an exit alert when the patient exits from the support surface. The control is configured to disarm the exit detection system, and the controller is further configured to use outputs from the exit detection sensors to detect when the patient on the support surface may be making an attempt to disarm the exit detection system, and to prevent the patient from disarming the exit detection system during the attempt. The sensors may comprise load cells. In some embodiments, the control is positioned at the foot end of the patient support apparatus, while in other embodiments, the control may be positioned along a siderail of the patient support apparatus.

Bed

A bed according to an embodiment may include a topper, at least one firmness adjuster provided under the topper, and a bedframe configured to have an adjustable position and to support the firmness adjuster. There may be a plurality of firmness adjusters corresponding to a plurality of areas of the bed, and each firmness adjuster may include a plurality of cushions provided in a cushion case and a drive to adjust the firmness of the plurality of cushions. The drive may change a position of a first spring relative to a second spring in each of the cushions to change a perceived firmness by a user lying on top of the topper and the firmness adjusters. A dryer may be provided under the bedframe to keep the cushions and topper dry.

The patient support deck comprises articulating deck sections, such as a leg section, seat section, and a back section pivotally coupled together. The seat section may include one or more articulating seats to assist with ingress and egress from the patient support apparatus. The one or more seats may be articulated manually or electrically via a lever or actuator.
