Powered side rail for a patient support apparatus

A patient support system comprises a patient support apparatus for patients. The patient support apparatus comprises a base and a patient support surface supported by the base. The patient support apparatus also comprises side rails that move between raised and lowered positions. One or more actuators are coupled to each of the side rails. A controller communicates with the actuators to raise and lower the side rails, either without any manual assistance from the user, or with manual assistance from the user.

PERSON SUPPORT APPARATUSES WITH LOAD CELLS

A person support apparatus, such as a bed, cot, stretcher, chair, or the like, includes a frame, a support surface supported by the frame, a plurality of load cells that detect weight supported on the support surface, at least one A/D converter, and a controller. The load cells output analog signals that are converted to digital by the A/D converters. The controller switches a sampling rate of the A/D converters between at least first and second rates. The outputs from the load cells are forwarded to a plurality of signal acquisition nodes that include the A/D converters. The nodes are positioned at locations that minimize the length of travel of the analog signals, thereby reducing noise interference. Shivering, occupant absence/presence, vital signs, occupant movement, and/or other parameters are detected by the load cells.

An operating table comprises a tabletop having a lying surface, and a plurality of sensors respectively configured to detect presence of a part of a patient's body on the tabletop above the respective sensor, wherein the sensors are configured to detect different physical characteristics of the part of the patient's body in order to determine the posture of the part of the patient's body or of the patient's body.

Patient support apparatuses with personal electronic device charging

A patient support apparatus includes a frame, a patient support surface, one or more force sensors that detect weight on the patient support surface, a recharger, and a controller. The recharger is adapted to recharge a personal electronic device of the patient's. The controller controls power supplied to the recharger based on outputs from the force sensors. Additionally or alternatively, a barrier is provided having a coil therein. The recharger includes a magnet for magnetically coupling to the barrier, and the recharger wirelessly receives power from the coil when the recharger is magnetically coupled to the barrier. Alternatively, the magnet holds a personal electronic device that receives power wirelessly from a coil inside the barrier. In still another variation, a pendant is included for controlling movement of the patient support apparatus and the pendant includes a recharger adapted to recharge a personal electronic device.

Systems, methods and techniques for operating a patient support apparatus are disclosed. The patient support apparatus includes a support structure including a base and a patient support surface to support a patient. The patient support apparatus also includes an actuator coupled to the support structure and operable to move the patient support surface. The actuator is configured to receive an applied voltage and an applied electrical current, and to produce an output power, where the applied electrical current varies based on different loads applied to the actuator. A controller is coupled to the actuator to determine a desired output power of the actuator and to control the actuator such that the output power produced by the actuator is controlled relative to the desired output power by modifying the applied voltage to compensate for the different loads being applied to the actuator.

Method for recalibrating a tare weight condition of a hospital bed

A method for detecting an exit of a patient from a hospital bed, the method comprising: detecting a presence of the patient on the bed; upon detection of the patient on the bed, monitoring an indication that the patient has moved from a predetermined patient area on a patient receiving surface of the bed to outside the predetermined patient area; upon detection that the patient has moved outside the predetermined patient area, activating a bed alarm to indicate to a user that an exit of the patient from the hospital bed has been detected. There is also provided a system for detecting an exit of a patient from a hospital bed. There is further provided a method for limiting a height of a hospital bed and a method for recalibrating a tare weight condition of a hospital bed.
