Method of forming a moisture-tolerant coating on a silicon carbide fiber
A method of forming a moisture-tolerant coating on a silicon carbide fiber includes exposing a silicon carbide fiber to a gaseous N precursor comprising nitrogen at an elevated temperature, thereby introducing nitrogen into a surface region of the silicon carbide fiber, and exposing the silicon carbide fiber to a gaseous B precursor comprising boron at an elevated temperature, thereby introducing boron into the surface region of the silicon carbide fiber. Silicon-doped boron nitride is formed at the surface region of the silicon carbide fiber without exposing the silicon carbide fiber to a gaseous Si precursor comprising Si. Thus, a moisture-tolerant coating comprising the silicon-doped boron nitride is grown in-situ on the silicon carbide fiber.
Fibrous mats and panels having a gypsum-based coating and methods for the manufacture thereof
Coated nonwoven fibrous mats, building panels, and methods for making the same are provided. A coated nonwoven fiber mat includes a nonwoven fibrous mat having a continuous barrier coating on a surface thereof. The continuous barrier coating includes a set composition of gypsum and a binder. A building panel includes a panel core associated with a coated nonwoven fiber mat. A method of making a coated nonwoven fibrous mat includes depositing a composition of water, gypsum stucco, and a binder onto a surface of a nonwoven fibrous mat and setting the composition to form a continuous barrier coating.
FIBER REINFORCED PLASTIC ENHANCED BY FUNCTIONALIZED PARTICLE
A composition of matter has a fiber structure impregnated with a polymer, the polymer having dispersed functionalized particles chemically bonded to the polymer, wherein the functionalized particles contain one of either groups same as a precursor of the polymer, or groups reactive with a precursor. A composition of matter has a fiber structure impregnated with cured epoxy resin having dispersed functionalized particles chemically bonded to the cured epoxy, wherein the functionalized particles contain one of either groups same as the epoxy resin, or groups reactive with the epoxy resin.
FUNCTIONAL COMPOSITE PARTICLES AND THE PREPARATION METHOD THEREOF
The present invention relates to functional composite particles and the preparation method thereof. One embodiment of the present invention provides a functional composite particle including an inner core and a shell layer, wherein the inner core is consisted of functional metallic particles and has an outer surface, while the shell layer is a physical vapor deposition (PVD) ceramic layer consisted of biocompatible ceramic materials, and is attached to the outer surface of the inner core. The shell layer is a crystalline structure thereby allowing the ionic functional metallic particles to be sustained-released to the outside of the shell layer from the inner core via crystal boundaries. In the embodiment of the present invention, biocompatible ceramic materials are used to cover the outside surface of the functional metallic particles which have specific functions via the PVD process so as to form functional composite particles. The ionic functional metallic particles of the functional composite particles are sustained-released via crystal boundaries of the shell layer, leading to longer action time of the functional metallic particles.
Flexible wet friction materials including silanes
A method for forming a friction material. The method includes mixing a fibrous base material and filler particles to form a substrate. The method further includes saturating the substrate with a silane solution including a silane to form a uniformly impregnated silane matrix. The method also includes curing the uniformly impregnated silane matrix to form a cured uniformly impregnated silane matrix. The method also includes saturating the cured uniformly impregnated silane matrix with a phenolic resin solution to form a uniformly impregnated silane, phenolic resin matrix. The method also includes curing the uniformly impregnated silane, phenolic resin matrix to form the friction material.
