Waterproof coating with nanoscopic/microscopic features and methods of making same
A process of fabricating the waterproof coating may include selecting a substrate, utilizing a sol-gel comprising a silane or silane derivative and metal oxide precursor to coat the substrate, and optionally coating the substrate with a hydrophobic chemical agent and/or other chemical agents to create a surface with nanoscopic or microscopic features. The process may utilize an all solution process or controlled environment for fabricating self-cleaning and waterproof coating that prevent wetting or staining of a substrate, or may utilize a controlled environment.
DURABLE SUPER-HYDROPHOBIC FABRIC AND PREPARATION METHOD THEREOF
The invention discloses a durable super-hydrophobic fabric and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method comprises the following steps: soaking a fabric into a mixed solution of tetraethoxysilane and hydroxy-terminated polydimethylsiloxane; taking out the fabric and then placing it into a closed container filled with a hydrochloric acid solution and above the liquid level of the hydrochloric acid solution; reacting for 0.5-2 h under the temperature of 30-60 DEG C. to give the durable super-hydrophobic fabric. The fabric prepared according to the invention has a water drop surface static contact angle of more than 150 such that the water drop is easy to roll on the surface of the fabric, and has excellent chemical stability and mechanical durability. In addition, the preparation process is simple and pollution-free.
TUNABLE SURFACE
An article can have a surface with selected wetting properties for various liquids.
Dual hierarchical omniphobic and superomniphobic coatings
The disclosed subject matter relates to an omniphobic material, including a substrate layer, a first layer of first nanoparticles, the first nanoparticles having a first size and including a particle core and a coating of a fluorodecyl POSS and fluoro-elastomer co-polymer and a second layer of second nanoparticles, the second nanoparticles having a second size and including a particle core and a coating of a fluorodecyl POSS and fluoro-elastomer co-polymer. The first layer of first nanoparticles contact the fabric layer and the second layer of second nanoparticles contact the layer of first nanoparticles. The second size of the second nanoparticles is larger than the first size of the second nanoparticles.

Textiles having a microstructured surface and garments comprising the same
The present invention relates to textile articles and clothing such as outdoor garments, indoor garments, and commercial protective wear exposed to contact mixtures of water and oil, swimwear and winter wear exposed to mixtures of water and air. At least part of these textile articles possess a surface provided with at least one of 1) a high surface area, 2) hierarchical pattern, 3) contact angles such that hydrophilic portion of a contact mixture possesses a high contact angle and the hydrophobic portion of a contact mixture possesses a low contact angle, and 4) hysteresis angle greater than 5 degrees. Hydrophobic/Hydrophilic contact mixtures of the present invention can be surfaces where water and or ice are present in combination with oil and or air. The textile articles of the present invention resist slippage on surfaces possessing hydrophobic/hydrophilic contact mixtures.
Disposable article including a nanostructure forming material
A disposable treatment article or disposable cleaning article that includes a hydrophobic nanoporous material. The disposable treatment or cleaning article is configured to contact and apply the nanoporous material to a surface. The nanoporous material is configured to form hydrophobic nanostructures on a surface upon the application of an activation stimulus. The nanostructures provide an anti-contamination benefit to the surface upon which the nanostructures are disposed.
INHERENTLY SUPER-OMNIPHOBIC FILAMENTS, FIBERS, AND FABRICS AND SYSTEM FOR MANUFACTURE
Invention is directed to a method of extruding an omni-phobic filament comprising: extruding a co-polymer filament having a first polymer at a core having generally a circular cross-section, and a second polymer disposed at a perimeter of the core wherein the second polymer is dissolvable; creating channels disposed at the perimeter of the core by dissolving the second polymer; creating trapezoidal cross-section features having a distal angle less than 70, a top edge greater than a side length and a bottom length less than the side length; and adding nano-sized particles to at least one of the top edge and one or more sides or any combination thereof.

Heterogeneous surfaces
Condensation can be an important process in both emerging and traditional power generation and water desalination technologies. Superhydrophobic nanostructures can promise enhanced condensation heat transfer by reducing the characteristic size of departing droplets via a surface-tension-driven mechanism. A superhydrophobic surface can include a heterogeneous surface.
