A multi-functional guide stick for the visually impaired is an apparatus with built in navigation, speech recognition, Bluetooth capabilities, fingerprint security, and close proximity environmental analysis. The apparatus is configured to analyze the user's surroundings and provide audio feedback. An auditory navigation system continuously provides the user with their current geographic location, preferably via Bluetooth headset or speaker. In addition, the apparatus also accepts voice command inputs, processes navigation requests for various destinations, and subsequently audibly conveys turn-by-turn navigation to reach said destination. Furthermore, with the use of a plurality of sensors, objects in close proximity, including vehicles moving at high speeds, are detected and information relayed to the user through auditory signals. The apparatus allows a visually impaired user to navigate the streets of the city, dangerous cross sections, and avoid obstacles with ease.

Line Tracking Cane for the Vision Impaired

Improvements in a line tracking cane for the vision impaired. The cane detects a line and notifies the user with a sound or vibration to indicate that is user is aligned with the line as the user passes the cane back-and-forth over the line. The detector can detect a direction of movement over the line to determine if the tip of the cane has completely passed over the line or has just moved half-way over the line. The cane is rechargeable and has a handle that orients the sensor on the tip of the cane to forward. The handle has an on-off or momentary power button. The cane can be collapsible as a folding cane or a telescoping cane. It is also contemplated that the tracking device can be an adapter for an existing cane to upgrade the functions of pre-existing cane.

A shock absorbing handle for a white cane for blind people or visually impaired, incorporates resilient members within its handle, primarily in the form of a spring located in the handle region of the cane, in order to cushion the impact when the lower tip of the cane encounters an obstruction. A length of resilient cord, such as a bungee cord, extends from the top of the handle of the cane, to the lower tip of its bottom most segment, so that when the cord is stretched, the various segments can be separated from their connecting ferrules, and contracted into a smaller size for packaging. The various segments can be stretched, through their resilient cord, and secured together, to form the lengthy white cane, having cushioning impact provided within its handle, to relieve stress upon the user, when obstructions are encountered during usage of the cane during its application.

Tactile Feedback Guidance Device

A tactile or haptic guidance device incorporates a LIDAR assembly and servo motor assembly or linear actuators to provide tactile feedback to the user. The LIDAR assembly determines obstacles in the path of the user and the micro-controller uses the LIDAR data to send a signal to the servo motor assembly or linear actuators, which will cause translational or rotational movement along one or more axes with appropriate amounts of force to provide tactile feedback to the user about objects in their path.

SYSTEM AND APPARATUS FOR MOBILITY CANE FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED
20200368099 · 2020-11-26 · ·

A system and apparatus for a mobility cane for the visually impaired to help aid pedestrian identification and provide walking assistance are described. The disclosed embodiments describe, amongst other things, a mobility cane whose shaft length may be illuminated and/or may utilize sensor information to determine illumination patterns. The cane may be a stand-alone device, or may be used in conjunction with a smart mobile device (e.g. smart phone).

An illuminated, multi-function cane for use by low-vision individuals is described and claimed. The device's various pulsating lights enable low-vision people to travel at night with assured confidence that they will be seen by drivers and cyclists from a safe distance exceeding one mile on a dark street! While at a high traffic lit city intersection the Lumi cane is very noticeable with its strobing rainbow lights 200 yards away, even with competition from other bright artificial lights. Even in dense fog Lumi's LED lights are visible at 40 to 75 yards distance.

A shock absorbing handle for a white cane for blind people or visually impaired, essentially providing a lengthy type of white cane, one that may be collapsible to reduce its size for packaging and conveyance, but once assembled, incorporates resilient members within its handle, primarily in the form of a spring located in the handle region of the cane, in order to cushion the impact when the lower tip of the cane encounters and obstruction, that impedes further movement. A length of resilient cord, such as a bungee cord, extends from the top of the handle of the cane, to the lower tip of its bottom most segment, so that when the cord is stretched, the various segments can be separated from their connecting ferrules, and contracted into a smaller size for packaging.
