Method, system and a computer program product for condition monitoring of a fiber web or paper finishing machine

A method for monitoring a machine element in a paper finishing machine (10). The machine element mounted for rotation machine elements (16-19) equipped with a sensor assembly (24) measuring force or pressure, and a counter-pair (15, 20, 33, 44) for said machine element. The machine element is made to rotate against the counter-pair, a measurement signal (25) is generated between the machine element and the counter-pair with the sensor assembly, and recording a reference cross-directional profile (21) of force or pressure generated. Condition monitoring (38) of vibration with the reference profile is by comparison of current signals with the reference so as to detect periodic variation (39.1, 39.2) in the cross-directional pressure profile, and producing visual information (37) from the analysis for monitoring. The invention also relates to a corresponding system, a rotating machine element for the method or the system, and a computer program product.

Application of model predictive control (MPC)-based forced ramping of process input variables and process output reference trajectory design over a prediction horizon for MPC-based paper machine grade change control

A controller reference trajectory design technique to enable high-performing automatic grade change performed by a model predictive control (MPC). Techniques include: (1) automatic determination of appropriate process output reference trajectory delays to enable optimum coordination of process input movements; (2) providing the entire planning process output reference trajectory ramp at the start of the grade change instead of just incrementally as the grade change progresses, again enabling movement of the process inputs to drive process outputs along the planned future path instead of just towards the current target; and (3) use of the process input forced ramping to allow linear ramping of process inputs with optimal coordination of other process input movements to keep all process outputs following the desired trajectories. The technical benefits are faster and higher performing grade changes. In addition, the use of this technology allows easier setup and maintenance of the automatic grade change package.

MONITORING SYSTEM, CONTROL SYSTEM, AND ACTUATION ASSEMBLY OF A PAPER MACHINE, AND A METHOD OF CONTROLLING

A monitoring system comprising: (a) one or more sensors that monitor activity, amplitude, size, scale, duration of activity or a combination thereof of stock on a paper machine and (b) a control system in communication with the one or more sensors and one or more foil sections within the paper machine; wherein the control system measures the activity, amplitude, size, scale, duration of activity or a combination thereof of the stock and correlates the activity, amplitude, size, scale, duration of activity or a combination thereof to formation of fibers within the stock so that an angle, height, or both of the one or more foil sections are adjusted to change the activity, amplitude, size, scale, duration of activity or a combination thereof in the stock.

A sheet manufacturing method includes: a defibrating step of defibrating a raw material containing a fiber in air; a mixing step of mixing a defibrated material defibrated in the defibrating step and a resin in air; a web forming step of forming a web by accumulating the mixture mixed in the mixing step on a moving body; a transporting step of transporting the web; a sheet forming step of forming a sheet from the web; a setting step of setting a thickness of the sheet; and a control step of controlling a moving speed of the moving body and a transporting speed of the web in the transporting step, in accordance with the thickness of the sheet set in the setting step.

Sheet manufactured from recyclable materials

A sheet comprising fibers, resin, and a marking. The resin is a fusion bonding resin, and the fibers are bound to each other by melting the fusion bonding resin. The fibers include defiberated recycled sheet(s). The marking is formed on a surface of the sheet and readable by a reading unit of a supply unit for supplying feedstock to a recycled sheet manufacturing apparatus. When the marking is read by the reading unit, the reading unit is caused to determine that the sheet is made from defibrated recycled sheet.

STEAM BOX WITH MULTIPLE VALVES AND DIFFUSER PLATES AND RELATED SYSTEM

The problem of inconsistent steam penetration of a fibrous sheet is solved by a steam box having a steam header, a diffuser housing disposed within the steam header, wherein walls disposed in the diffuser housing divide an inside of the diffuser housing into multiple diffuser chambers, wherein a valve is configured to fluidly and programmatically communicate with each of the multiple diffuser chambers, such that a steam from the header box may selectively enter one of the diffuser chambers depending upon the valve's orientation in an open or closed position; and multiple orifices of different sizes per diffuser chamber. Ideally, exemplary steam boxes may also comprise a diffuser plates per diffuser chamber. Preferably, the diffuser plates may be located at a bottom of the diffuser chamber. Exemplary steam box systems may further comprise control equipment to manage the flow of steam from the steam header into the diffuser chambers.
