The invention provides a method of coating a fabric, e.g. a textile material, with a polymer coating, which method comprises contacting a fabric with a monomer and subjecting the monomer to low power plasma polymerization, wherein the monomer comprises the general formula (I): C.sub.nF.sub.2n+1C.sub.mX.sub.2mCR.sub.1Y—OCO—C(R.sub.2)═CH.sub.2, wherein n is 2 to 6, m is 0 to 9, X and Y are H, F, Cl, Br or I, R.sub.1 is H or alkyl, e.g. —CH.sub.3, or a substituted alkyl, e.g. an at least partially halo-substituted alkyl, and R.sub.2 is H or alkyl, e.g. —CH.sub.3 or a substituted alkyl, e.g. an at least partially halo-substituted alkyl.

WATER-REPELLENT SOFTENING AGENT

A softening agent composition including (1) a silicone polymer, (2) a water-repellent polymer, (3) an emulsifier, and (4) a liquid medium that is water or a mixture of water and an organic solvent. Also disclosed is a method for producing the softening agent composition which includes producing a water-repellent polymer by polymerizing, in the presence of the silicone polymer, a monomer that constitutes the water-repellent polymer. The water-repellent polymer may be at least one selected from the group consisting of fluorine-containing polymers and non-fluorine-containing polymers. Also disclosed is a method for treating a substrate with the softening agent composition and a substrate treated with the softening agent composition.

Disclosed are a hydrophobic and oleophobic coating, a preparation method therefor and a product, wherein the hydrophobic and oleophobic coating is formed by the deposition of a perfluoropolyether or perfluoropolyether derivative on the surface of a substrate by means of PECVD, such that the hydrophobic and oleophobic properties of the surface of the substrate are improved by the perfluoropolyether or perfluoropolyether derivative coating. Further disclosed are a hydrophobic and oleophobic coating, a preparation method therefor and a product, wherein the hydrophobic and oleophobic coating comprises: at least a two-layer structure, one of the layers being formed by the plasma chemical vapor deposition of one or more perfluoropolyethers or perfluoropolyether derivatives as raw materials, and the other layer being formed by the plasma chemical vapor deposition of a silane- or siloxane-containing raw material, thereby improving the hydrophobic and oleophobic properties of the surface of a substrate.

Surface treatment agent

A water- and oil-repellent agent that is an aqueous dispersion containing (A) a fluorine-free polymer having repeating units derived from a fluorine-free (meth)acrylic acid ester monomer, (B) a wax, (C) an aqueous medium, and (D) an emulsifier. The fluorine-free (meth)acrylic acid ester monomer is a compound represented by the formula CH.sub.2═CA.sup.11-C(═O)—O-A.sup.12 where A.sup.11 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and A.sup.12 is a linear or branched C.sub.18-30 hydrocarbon group. The emulsifier includes a sorbitan ester and another emulsifier, and the emulsifier has a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) of 7.5 to 13.5. Also disclosed is a method of producing the water- and oil-repellent agent and a method of producing a treated substrate by applying the water- and oil-repellent agent to a substrate.

Provided is a water- and oil-repellent agent composition that is capable of producing an article having a high water pressure resistance and a low water absorption rate. The water- and oil-repellent agent composition contains a fluorine-containing polymer having a unit based on a monomer (a), a unit based on a monomer (b1), a unit based on a monomer (b2), a unit based on a monomer (b3), and a unit based on a monomer (c), wherein relative to all the units that constitute the fluorine-containing polymer, the proportion of the unit based on the monomer (a) is from 70 to 80% by mass, the proportion of the combination of the unit based on the monomer (b1), the unit based on the monomer (b2) and the unit based on the monomer (b3) is from 12 to 28% by mass, and the proportion of the unit based on the monomer (c) is from 2 to 8% by mass. Monomer (a): a compound represented by (Z-Q).sub.nX. Monomer (b1): a monomer not having a polyfluoroalkyl group (R.sup.f group), but having an alkyl group of 22 carbon atoms. Monomer (b2): a monomer not having an R.sup.f group, but having an alkyl group of 20 carbon atoms. Monomer (b3): a monomer not having an R.sup.f group, but having an alkyl group of 18 carbon atoms. Monomer (c): a halogenated olefin.
