Longitudinal element, in particular for a traction or suspension means
A longitudinal element produced with a core made of high-strength fibers and at least one metal casing, preferably steel, surrounding this core. In this way, there is the significant advantage that these high-strength fibers, which are very lightweight in relation to their strength, are protected in a number of ways, namely against humidity, moisture, UV light and other environmental influences. In addition, the metal casing provides the fibers with protection against transverse loads. In this way, all the high-strength properties of the traction or suspension means are maintained over a sustained period.
ELECTRIFIED-CABLE SYSTEM FOR TRANSIT AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME
Disclosed herein is a transport system, comprising an electrified cable system, a carriage supported by a non-electrified static cable, an electrical drive system incorporated into the carriage, the electrical drive system being utilized to move the carriage along the non-electrified static cable, a transconnector configured to supply electrical power to the carriage, and a power distribution panel. Corresponding methods of making and using the system also are disclosed.
Interactive cord with improved capacitive touch sensing
An interactive cord system can include sensing circuitry coupled to a system ground and an interactive cord. The interactive cord can include a plurality of non-conductive lines a plurality of conductive sensing lines at least partially woven with one or more of the plurality of non-conductive lines to form at least one touch-sensitive area along the interactive cord and one or more conductive grounding lines electrically connected with the system ground and extending at least partially along an outer portion of the interactive cord.
CABLE, IN PARTICULAR FOR DOWNHOLE USE, AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING SUCH CABLE
The disclosure relates to a cable (100) comprising a core (102) and a plurality of reinforcing elements (107) arranged around the core (102) so as to cover the core (102), wherein each reinforcing element (107) includes at least a bundle of reinforcement fibers compriseing at least one fiber and a thermoset matrix impregnating the bundle of fibers, wherein each reinforcing element (107) is individually tubed with a thermoplastic coating (112).
ELONGATION AND HEAT INDICATING SYNTHETIC FIBER ROPE
Disclosed is a non-steel strength membered high strength cable easily monitored for heat and elongation comprising a length of a core-cable (10), the length of core-cable (10) including at least two fiber-optic conductors (2) that are: (i) disposed in a helical shape; and (ii) completely encased in a solid, flexible material.
One fiber-optic conductor capable of transmitting at least Raman backscattering and the other fiber-optic conductor capable of transmitting at least Brillouin scattering.
A combination of the cable (10): (i) with an interrogator that can read and interpret Raman backscattering coupled to and communicating with the fiber optic conductor that is capable of transmitting at least Raman backscattering; and (ii) another interrogator that can read and interpret Brillouin scattering coupled to and communicating with the fiber optic conductor that is capable of transmitting at least Brillouin scattering;
permits ascertaining the elongation of the cable, without using loose tube fiber-opticplacement.

The invention relates to a rope having a length LR of at least 100 m, the rope comprising synthetic filaments with a filament tenacity of at least 1.0 N/tex, characterized in that a weight fraction χ of the total weight of synthetic filaments present in the load bearing core have a length LF of 0.01 m to 0.7*L.sub.R, wherein said weight fraction is at least 50 wt %. The invention further relates to an airborne wind power generation system comprising the rope as well as the use of the rope in an airborne wind power generation system wherein the length of the rope oscillates between a maximum length L.sub.max and a minimum length L.sub.min, wherein L.sub.max is at most 10,000 m and L.sub.min is at least 100 m and wherein the ratio of L.sub.max to L.sub.min is between 10 and 1.5.
Rope made of textile fiber material, comprising a twine of excess length
The invention relates to a rope made of textile fiber material, comprising a rope core and a sheath surrounding the rope core, wherein the sheath, an intermediate sheath located between the sheath and the rope core and/or a reinforcement located between the sheath and the rope core comprise(s) a twine of excess length, the twine of excess length being formed in that it comprises at least a first yarn and a second yarn which are twisted together, the first yarn having a greater length than the second yarn, measured in an untwisted state of a unit length of the twine. In a further aspect, the invention relates to a method of manufacturing a twine of excess length for the above-mentioned rope.
