Systems and methods for variable stiffness tethers
10709449 · 2020-07-14 · ·

Described herein are devices and methods for guide elements configured with variable stiffness, with one or more flexible portions and one or more stiff portions. The flexible portion is be used as a tensioning element of a cinchable implant to tighten or compress tissues while the stiff portion is used to facilitate the insertion or withdrawal of portions of the implant or instruments acting on the implant. The guide element is further configured to be separated or severed between the flexible and stiff portions so that a flexible portion is left within the body as part of the implant, while the stiff portion is withdrawn from the body after implantation is completed.

Termination installation for long cables
10656033 · 2020-05-19 · ·

A method for creating a composite cable having at least one high-performance termination on at least one end. A high-performance termination is added to an end of a short synthetic tensile strength member. The strength of the tensile strength member and termination is then tested. Once tested satisfactorily, the short cable is spiced onto a long cable of the same type using prior art splicing techniques. The union of the short cable and the long cable creates a composite cable having a high-performance termination on at least one end. In most applications it is preferable to set the length of the short cable so that the interwoven splice will exist at a desired location.

Mooring member

A mooring member comprises a rope configured for extending between a vessel floating in a body of water and an anchoring device. The mooring member comprises a plurality of functional elements, wherein a first functional element is wound onto at least a portion of the rope, a second functional element is wound onto the first functional element, and so on, until an outermost functional element is wound onto a second-to-outermost functional element. The functional elements are wound in a helical configuration, and are configured to provide at least one of the following functions: damage protection, buoyancy, optical detection, sonar detection, stiffness control, and anti-fouling.

String, rope, or strap with repetitively spaced holes/flexible-eyelets
10604892 · 2020-03-31 ·

A string, rope, or strap with repetitively spaced openings/flexible eyelets from bifurcated braiding or weaving, or from cutting and sealing. The bifurcated openings are preferably created from a single rope or strap that is subsequently braided or weaved into two strings, ropes, or straps and then back into one. The frequent and periodic placement of these eyelets on the string, rope, or strap, allows the user to easily tie down items. The rope or strap is flexible enough to pull it in on its self, through its eyelets. The ends of the string, rope, or strap are finished into a hard tip.

Braiding apparatus capable of generating one rope with different braid densities
10513808 · 2019-12-24 ·

A braiding apparatus includes a base, a strand supplier supplying a core strand, strand carriers shuttling on the base and providing carrier strands that wrap the core strand and twist together to form a rope, a guiding pulley disposed above the strand carriers to feed the rope to a strand collector, and a control device having a driving source connected to the guiding pulley, at least one recognition unit arranged on the guiding pulley, a sensor disposed relative to the guiding pulley, and a controller electrically connected to the sensor and the driving source. The sensor counts the number of the recognition unit passing the sensor when the guiding pulley rotates to measure lengths of divided sections of the rope. Concurrently, the controller controls the driving source and the guiding pulley to have different rotational speeds, thereby controlling different braid densities of different sections of the same rope precisely.

BELT WITH CORRUGATED MATERIAL

An elevator system includes a hoistway, an elevator car movable along the hoistway, and one or more belts operably connected to the elevator car to propel the elevator car along the hoistway. A belt of the one or more belts includes one or more tension elements extending along a belt length, and a jacket at least partially encapsulating the one or more tension elements. The jacket includes a jacket base formed from a first material and one or more insert layers embedded in the jacket base material. The one or more insert layers have a corrugated shape along the belt length, and are formed from a second material different from the first material.

Loop Structure, Method for Producing a Loop Structure and Element

This invention relates to a loop structure (7) comprising at least two elements (1), wherein each element (1) comprises at least one loop (5) that interlocks with at least one loop (5) of an additional element (1). In accordance with the invention, it is proposed that each of the elements (1) has a multiple number of strands (2), at least partially made of flexible material, wherein the strands (2) of the element (1) are processed in a textile-like manner into at least two webs that are spaced apart from each other in the longitudinal direction of the element (1); in particular, they are braided, woven, knitted and/or enmeshed, and the strands (2) are divided into sections and each part is processed in a textile-like manner into a wing (4), wherein at least two wings (4) connect two of the webs (3) to each other and the loops (5) are formed from the wings (4). Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for producing a loop structure (7) as described above and an element (1) that has a loop (5).

SAFE METAL FREE AND HOOKLESS WINCH ROPE
20240076830 · 2024-03-07 ·
