STEEL CORD AND MANUFACTURING PROCESS THEREFOR

A steel cord and a manufacturing process are disclosed. The steel cord includes a steel core wire located in the center and having a diameter of d; and M sheath-layer steel wires arranged around the steel core wire in the center, tangent to the steel core wire, and having a diameter of d1, at least two gaps L existing between the M sheath-layer steel wires, where M is 4; d, d1, and L satisfy the following relationship: 0.420<(d/d1)<0.800, d1 is between 0.20 mm and 0.44 mm, and L0.0008 mm. The steel cord of the present invention may allow rubber to be fully penetrated into the gaps, thereby reducing air content in the steel cord, avoiding point contact friction between the layers of steel wires due to insufficient rubber penetration, and further solving the problem of failure of the bearing capacity of the steel cord due to abrasion.

A net is formed by joining cables which are over-knitted with cord. A cable may be made of wire or stainless-steel cable. A composite cable is a cable that is over-knitted with cord to form a composite cable. The cord may be made of fibrous material and in some embodiments is made of aramid fibers. Adjacent composite cables are joined at regular intervals to form a net. In some embodiments, composite cables are composed of cable with an over-knitted cord, inter-knitted at junctions that are spaced at regular intervals to form a net. The individual cables are over-knitted with cord and the junctions are formed as the over-knitted cords are inter-knitted.

Elongate body with Exoskeleton

An elongate body adapted to bend in a single plane, comprises a rope extending within a succession of individual tubular elements closely spaced along the rope. Each element has on two opposite sides of the plane an extended section engaging a recess in its neighbouring element, the profiles of the section and recess allowing relative rotation of adjacent elements in said plane. The tubular elements thus form an exoskeleton around the rope which must be breached before the rope can be cut. The geometry of the tubular elements can be such that notwithstanding gaps, the rope cannot be readily accessed unless the exoskeleton is broken.

A security device has a flexible strap (26) with a lock unit (28) attached at each end. The strap (26) comprises a plurality of longitudinally extending multi-filament cables or ropes (2) arranged in a substantially planar array embedded in an elastomeric material (4). The cables or ropes (2) have a coating of primer for creating a bond with the elastomeric material (4). The primer may be restricted to the external surface of the cables or ropes (2), or some of the surfaces of the filaments may be free of primer. This facilitates relative movement of the filaments during flexure or compression of the strap (26). Moreover, an extrusion process for manufacturing the strap (26) including a priming station (12) is disclosed.

A pneumatic tire is disclosed that can improve high-speed durability and shock resistance without increasing the mass of a belt reinforcing layer. The pneumatic tire includes a carcass, a belt on the outer periphery of a crown part of the carcass and a belt reinforcing layer on the outer periphery of the belt, wherein the belt reinforcing layer is provided with a belt reinforcing ply including an organic fiber cord having a double twisting structure obtained by intertwisting two first twisted yarns including a filament bundle of aliphatic polyamide fibers, having nominal fineness of 4000 dtex or less and having tensile toughness (J) per one cord of 5 J or more, and a major diameter direction of the belt reinforcing ply is parallel to a belt outer periphery, and the product of the toughness (J) per one organic fiber cord and cord count (number/25 mm) is 130 to 180.

SYNTHETIC FIBER CABLE

A carbon fiber cable includes a core member having multiple thermosetting-resin-impregnated carbon fibers bundled together, and multiple side members each having multiple thermosetting-resin-impregnated synthetic fibers bundled together in each side member. The thermosetting resin is in a cured state and each of the multiple side members has been shaped utilizing curability of the resin. The shaped multiple side members are each in such a state that they are twisted together around the core member.
