Methods for biobased derivatization of cellulosic surfaces

The present disclosure describes tunable methods of treating cellulosic materials with a composition that provides increased hydrophobicity and/or lipophobicity to such materials without sacrificing the biodegradability thereof. The methods as disclosed provide for binding of saccharide fatty acid esters on cellulosic materials, including that the disclosure provides products made by such methods. The materials thus treated display higher hydrophobicity, lipophobicity, barrier function, and mechanical properties, and may be used in any application where such features are desired.

Embodiments of the present invention relate to a method of making a paper comprising the steps of: a) providing a cationic wet strength resin comprising a polyamidoamine epihalohydrin, a condensation copolymer of epihalohydrin and amine, or combination thereof; b) providing an anionic polymer; c) co-mixing the cationic wet strength resin and the anionic polymer to provide a composition comprising polyelectrolyte complexes; d) providing an aqueous pulp slurry, draining the aqueous pulp slurry on a screen to form a wet fiber web, and drying the wet fiber web to obtain the paper, wherein said co-mixed composition is introduced to the aqueous pulp slurry or on the formed wet fiber web. Embodiments of the present invention further relates to a paper wet strength composition, its use in paper making and a paper obtainable therefrom.

PATTERNED LOTION TISSUE

Provided are tissue products containing an additive adapted to reduce skin irritation, such as a lotion, and a colorant may be manufactured with relatively low total add-on amounts of the additive without reducing effectiveness, while providing the product with a distinct aesthetic appearance. In a specific embodiment, the additive composition comprises an oil, a wax, and a colorant comprising a pigment and a wetting agent. The additive and colorant, which are preferably both hydrophobic and non-aqueous, are be added simultaneously and in the same pattern so as to provide a tissue product having a distinct aesthetic appearance that also provides a cue to the user that the product comprises a soothing additive. In certain instances an aesthetic pattern, particularly a coloured pattern, provides a visual cue to the user and reinforces the benefits of the product, enabling lower additive add-on levels without degrading the user experience.

SURFACE SIZING AGENT FOR PAPERMAKING

To provide a surface sizing agent for papermaking, which has good low foamability and mechanical stability and has an excellent sizing effect. The surface sizing agent for papermaking is a surface sizing agent for papermaking, comprising a composition obtained by polymerizing unsaturated monomers in the presence of a starch, wherein the amount of the starch is 25 to 40 mass % based on the total amount of the starch and the unsaturated monomers, the unsaturated monomers comprise at least a styrenic compound and a (meth)acrylic ester compound, and the amount of the styrenic compound is 10 mass % or more and less than 30 mass %, and the amount of the (meth)acrylic ester compound is 20 to 50 mass %, based on the total amount of the starch and the unsaturated monomers.
