A bite-safe artificial nipple is constructed of polymeric materials sufficiently soft and elastic to replicate a nursing mother's nipple tissue. Added to the soft, elastic matrix phase is a braided fibrous mesh tube to prevent a small bitten-off portion of the nipple from becoming separated from the rest of the teat, thereby preventing a choking hazard. The braided fibrous mesh tube is arranged in a very specific configuration, so that it experiences neither tension nor compression as the teat is compressed or elongated in use and so does not act to reinforce the soft, elastic matrix phase which would otherwise create a classic load-transfer composite destroying the soft, elastic properties of the matrix phase needed for the desired functioning of the artificial teat.

The nipple comprises a breast portion having a central region, and a latch portion extending from the breast portion, the latch portion comprising a teat portion and an areola portion. The outer wall of the latch portion includes a first region having a first wall thickness and a second region having a second wall thickness, wherein the second wall thickness is less than the first wall thickness. The container body includes a tube portion defining a cavity for holding a liquid having therein, a wide opening disposed at one end and a narrow opening disposed at an opposite end. The plunger removably and sealingly fits inside the cavity and slidably move there along when the container is in a syringe mode, and seals the tube portion when the container is in a storage mode. The attachable nipple sealingly attaches to the wide opening for releasing a liquid held in the container body when sucked on when the container is in a feed-bottle mode in which the plunger is removed, and for pressurizing fluids when the container is in a feed-tube mode, and is removed when the container is in a syringe or storage mode. The attachable cap seals the narrow opening of the container when in storage or in feed-bottle mode. The feeding tube sealingly attaches to the narrow opening for releasing a liquid held in the container body when the container is in a feed-tube mode.

INFANT FEEDING ASSEMBLY AND METHOD OF STERILISING

The present invention relates to an infant feeding assembly, in particular an assembly which is sterilisable by steam generated within a container to which the assembly is mounted. The assembly includes a securing member for mounting an infant feeding nipple to a mouth of a container, and a surface including a cover contacting portion for selectively mounting a cover to the assembly. The assembly further includes a fluid flow path configured such that, when the securing member mounts the infant feeding nipple to the container in use, the container is fluidly connected to the surface. A method of sterilising the infant feeding assembly is also disclosed.
