A thermoplastic resin composition of the present invention comprises: about 100 parts by weight of a thermoplastic resin containing at least one of a polyamide resin and a polyester resin; and about 1 to about 5 parts by weight of zinc oxide, wherein the zinc oxide has an average particle size (D50), as measured by a particle analyzer, of about 0.8 to about 3 μm, and wherein the intensity ratio (B/A) of peak A in a region of 370-390 nm and peak B in a range of 450-600 nm, at the time of photoluminescence measurement, is about 0.01 to about 1.0. The thermoplastic resin composition is excellent in weather resistance, antibacterial properties, mechanical properties, and the like.

Method for producing antimicrobial thermal and heat-retaining fiber, fiber produced by the method and fabric using the fiber

Disclosed is a method for producing an antimicrobial heat-retaining fiber. The method includes spinning a spinning solution onto a fiber-forming resin. The spinning solution includes 1.0 to 6.0% by weight of carbon particles and 0.2 to 2.0% by weight of a metal alkoxide coupling agent. The spinning solution further includes 0.5 to 3.0% by weight of inorganic particles composed of a metal powder, a ceramic powder, or a mixture thereof By using the metal alkoxide coupling agent, the carbon particles and the inorganic particles are dispersed in a resin. Also disclosed is a fiber produced by the method. The fiber is prevented from breakage during spinning and is imparted with heat-retaining and antimicrobial functions due to the presence of the carbon particles and the inorganic particles. Further disclosed is a fabric manufactured using the fiber. The fabric can be prevented from deterioration of wash fastness.

The invention relates to Cu-embedded masterbatches forming by a novel formulation and its production process. The novel formulation comprises a mixing powder prepared from Cu.sub.2O and ZnO. The mixing powder is milled in water to form slurry. Spray-dry the slurry at 130˜150° C. to get anti-bacterial powder. Add 12 wt. %˜15 wt. % of the anti-bacterial powder to plastic masterbatches and follow by pre-mixing, heating, stirring, melting, extruding, cooling and cutting process to obtain the Cu-embedded masterbatches.

COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR 3D PRINTED FIBROUS SCAFFOLDS WITH ANTIMICROBIAL PROPERTIES INCORPORATING GRAPHENE OXIDE AND POLY(E-CAPROLACTONE)

A composition of Poly(e-caprolactone)—PLC—and Graphene Oxide (GO) for use in killing bacteria that cause infections in patients implanted with medical devices, for example Staphylococcus epidermidis and Escherichia coli. Also disclosed is a method for constructing PLC/GO fibers and fibrous scaffolds by additive manufacturing and wet spinning, employing the composition and for example 3D printing. The method and compositions can be developed to produce a fibrous scaffold in which fiber diameter and PLC/GO concentrations are such that GO sheets are incorporated but at the same time exposed at the polymer surface, coffering bactericidal properties to the material, while keeping biocompatibility. Also disclosed is a fibrous PLC/GO bactericidal scaffold and the implanted medical devices having such scaffold. The composition, method, scaffold and medical devices may be used to achieve PLC/GO scaffolds and medical devices with bactericidal properties that have reduced risk of implant-associated infections.
