COSMETIC COMPOSITION HAVING A LAMELLAR NETWORK
A substantially anhydrous cosmetic composition having a lamellar network including: (a) about 20 to about 84.5 wt. % of one or more glycols chosen from ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, hexylene glycol, pentylene glycol, diethylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, 1,3 propanediol, polyethylene glycols, and a mixture thereof; (b) about 15 wt. % to about 50 wt. % of one or more trihydric alcohols having from 3 to 5 carbon atoms; wherein the total amount of the one or more glycols of (a) is greater than the total amount of the one or more trihydric alcohols of (b); (c) about 0.1 to about 5 wt. % of one or more cationic surfactants; (d) about 0.1 to about 5 wt. % one or more alkoxylated fatty alcohols; and (e) about 0.1 to about 10 wt. % of one or more fatty alcohols, wherein all percentages by weight are based on the total weight of the cosmetic composition.
NOVEL METHOD OF USE AND COMPOSITIONS
The present invention is directed to a method for improving the occlusiveness of a topical pharmaceutical or cosmetic formulation in use in a patient in need thereof, comprising adding to the formulation at least 0.1- to about 10% w/w of one or more of a monofatty acid ester of glycerin and/or one or more of a monofatty acid ester of glycol, or mixtures thereof.
The present invention is also directed to a method for maintaining skin barrier efficiency of the stratum corneum of a patient in need thereof, comprising applying to the skin of said patient a pharmaceutical or cosmetic formulation containing at least 3% w/w of one or more of a monofatty acid ester of glycerin and/or one or more of a monofatty acid ester of glycol, or mixtures thereof.
NON-ALUMINIUM ANTIPERSPIRANT COMPOSITIONS
An antiperspirant composition comprising ethanol, amphiphilic material and volatile silicone, the amphiphilic material being a substance or mixture of substances which forms, upon contact with perspiration, a water-insoluble liquid crystal phase of greater than one dimensional periodicity, wherein: (i) the ratio of amphiphilic material to (ethanol+volatile silicone) is greater than or equal to 1:9; (ii) the ratio of volatile silicone to (ethanol+amphiphilic material) is from 1:9 to 1:1 and wherein (iii) the ratio of ethanol to amphiphilic material is greater than or equal to 7:3.
NOVEL OCCLUSIVE COMPOSITIONS
The invention provides for a topical o/w emulsion having moisturizing, and protecting, repairing or restoring the skin lipid barrier of the lips of a mammal, and is a topical oil-in-water emulsion composition comprising: (a) a discontinuous oil phase; (b) a continuous aqueous phase comprising water; (c) a thickening agent; (d) at least one lamellar membrane structure comprising (i) an alkyl amphiphilic component, (ii) an ester of a branched fatty acid and a branched fatty alcohol, (iii) a fatty acid, (iv) a fatty alcohol, and optionally (v) a phospholipid; and
