Liquid-liquid extraction composition useful in processing water-soluble surfactants

Compositions useful in liquid-liquid extraction processes for improving the taste of water-soluble surfactants, said composition comprising: from about 5% to about 60%, by weight of the composition, of water soluble surfactant; from about 10% to about 90%, by weight of the composition, of water; from about 10% to about 90%, by weight of the composition, of extraction solvent; at least 0.01%, by weight of the composition, of undesirable non-polar materials; wherein the extraction solvent is selected from solvents having individual Hansen solubility parameters of a dispersion force component (.sub.D) ranging from about 15 to about 17 (MPa).sup.0.5, a polar component (.sub.P) ranging from 0 to about 9 (MPa).sup.0.5 and a hydrogen bonding component (.sub.H) ranging from 0 to about 11 (MPa).sup.0.5.

An oil-in-water emulsion lip cosmetic that is not sticky when applied and superior to provide watery feel, glossy appearance, transparent and long-lasting glossy appearance when applied, comprises (A) an oil phase further comprising (a1) and (a2), wherein (a1) is 5 to 70% by mass of a non-volatile hydrocarbon oil including hydrogenated polyisobutene, and (a2) is 5 to 70% by mass of methylphenyl silicone that separates from (a1) when (a1) and (a2) are mixed with at 25 C.; and (B) an aqueous phase further comprising (b1) and (b2), wherein (b1) is 10 to 80% by mass of an aqueous component, and (b2) is 0.01 to 10% by mass of a colorant.

However, the composition can be transformed into a single phase composition when being mixed. The single phase composition, such as an emulsion, can provide good cosmetic effects such as good make-up removability, with a smooth feeling to the touch during application and suppression of residue on the wall of the package that includes the composition. The single phase composition can return to a two-phase composition over time with a controlled demulsification speed.
