CORD FOR REINFORCING ELASTOMERS
A cord for reinforcing elastomers excellent in adhesion to elastomers such as rubber is provided. The cord is a cord for reinforcing elastomers (10) that includes metallic filaments (1) and a resin filament (2) twisted together, the resin filament (2) being made from a polymeric material having a melting point or softening point of 80 to 160 C. The cord for reinforcing elastomers includes a core and at least one sheath layer, wherein, after vulcanization, a distance w between metallic filaments (1b) forming an outermost sheath layer is 100 m or less, and, on a cross section of the cord taken along a direction orthogonal to an axial direction, a filling ratio, which is a ratio of an area of a polymeric material (3) derived from the resin filament (2) to a gap region is 52 to 120%, where the gap region is defined as a portion occupied by a material other than the metallic filaments (1) within a region formed by connecting the centers of the individual metallic filaments (1b) constituting the outermost sheath layer.

COMPOSITE ELEVATOR SYSTEM TENSION MEMBER
A tension element of an elevator system tension member includes a plurality of first polymer fibers of a first material extending along a length of the tension element, and a plurality of second polymer fibers of a second material different from the first material. The plurality of second polymer fibers have a melting point lower than that of the plurality of first polymer fibers. The plurality of second polymer fibers are fused to the plurality of first polymer fibers to serve as a matrix for the plurality of first polymer fibers.

Jacketed wire rope
A wire rope has a lubricated core, an inner jacket in contact with the core, and outer strands wrapped around the inner jacket. An outer jacket surrounds the outer strands and contacts the inner jacket to form an integrated jacket. A method of forming an integrated jacket for a wire rope in which an inner jacket is cold applied and an outer jacket is applied by application of molten material to the inner jacket.
COMPOSITE LENGTHY BODY
Articles such as a net, a round sling or a splice include a resin-impregnated lengthy body having multifilamentary yarns comprised of high performance polyethylene (HPPE) fibres and a polymeric resin dispersed throughout a cross-section of the multifilamentary yarns. The the polymeric resin is a homopolymer or copolymer of ethylene and/or propylene, wherein the polymeric resin has a density as measured according to ISO1183 in the range from 860 to 930 kg/m.sup.3, a melting temperature in the range from 40 to 140? C. and a heat of fusion of at least 5 J/g.
ESCALATOR HANDRAIL AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING ESCALATOR HANDRAIL
A method of manufacturing an escalator handrail which has a composite material including a metallic steel wire and a thermoplastic resin, said metallic steel wire having a center elemental wire and a plurality of strands placed so as to surround the center elemental wire, including: a preheating step of heating the metallic steel wire; a composite-material forming step of integrating the metallic steel wire heated in the preheating step with the thermoplastic resin in a molten state to thereby form the composite material; and a cooling step of cooling the composite material formed in the composite-material forming step.
